My partner is 37, he suffered a TBI following assault 4 years ago. Prior to that he had a professional job and loved playing football. Now, despite the physical recovery he can’t work or play sports. He has only recently begun to accept his injury.

We’ve just watched The Crash Reel (am incredible film about TBI) and realised how many more people like him there must be.

We live in Cornwall and there seems to be very little support for TBI survivors here. The Headway support groups are not running. He feels isolated and alone, like he’s the only one going through it.

Is there anyone out there in a similar position to him? Similar age, similar losses, live nearby etc. I feel like if he could connect with someone who has been through it, or is still in the early stages of recovery he would feel less alone, or inspired by others stories.

Hi Starry. Welcome to the forum. I'm not in your partner's age group, and couldn't be much further from Cornwall, and remain in England. But this forum will have people that tick the box.

This is a safe place to talk, to ask, just participate. You already have made contact with Headway. They will open up again at some point.

Wishing you a your partner well 🍀

Hi Starry, I'm not in the right bracket either - would he post on here himself?

You're right that the recognition that all the nuances of weird TBI stuff we get is actually 'normal' is incredibly grounding. Has he been able to talk to the Headway helpline at all? 0808 800 2244

Thank you, yes we have both spoken to the Headway helpline, I just feel actually meeting someone in the same boat will help as well. Hopefully we find someone…
