Hello everybody, this may be a little risky but I often listen to the same songs because they are linked in some way to my experience of brain injury and my "on going recovery". The risky part is whether you too link songs lyrics to your recovery and of course whether you like my choices or see any point in this exercise. There's only one way to find out so let's go:
We Float - PJ Harvey - this song is quite dark but the chorus states "we float - take life as it comes" in a beautiful melodic way and I think we could all do with that advice on occasion.
Eye Know - De La Soul - early in my recovery I had days when let's say I wasn't exactly my biggest fan. In the song the chorus of "I know I love you better" reminds me that self love is an essential component to success on a daily basis so when I feel a bit down I stick it on.
Every Day People - Sly and the Family Stone - This song is about races and classes accepting each other as equals and sometimes I have to remind myself that I am just the same as everybody else despite a few glitches in the system.
Fearless - Pink Floyd - This is my determination song highlighted by the lyrics "you say the hills too steep to climb - well I'll climb that hill in my own way, just wait a while for the right day etc.". It also has "and you'll never walk alone" to remind you that you have the support of others around.
King of Pain - The Police - Sorry but a brain injury sometimes needs a nickname and this is one of mine. Not physical pain in my case but the brain injury has created enough pain in certain areas of my life to warrant this title.
And finally . . .
Don't Stop - Fleetwood Mac - This is geared towards the fact that I sometimes have bad days, who doesn't? But it is important to remember there is always a tomorrow and after a good night's sleep you can get over yesterday and forget about it and keep moving forward.
