Using Syrebo Robotic Gloves and Spiral Skins

Hi there, I'm a newbie to this site! My name is Susan, I'm 73 and have lived with a traumatic brain injury for the past 20 years. I am starting to discover the power of these discussion forums and the access to new information about improving quality of life! It is nice to be able to connect with others who are floating in the same boat! In the first instance I would love to hear from others with Hemiplegia injury caused by brain injury and if they have had any experience or exposure to either the Syrebo Robotic Gloves, and / or any of the Spiral Skins products. I have had incredible success with both! Thank you, Susan.

Hi, looks like a good idea, there are loads of robotic products on the market. I was advised to try one out for my left arm and hand after the usage was lost after TBI.

I did not try the robotics as I got my arm to regain function after months/ years of gripping and movement exercises.

I'd be interested to know if you get really painful spasticity effects, nerve impulses and judders in your limbs as the functioning improves.

For me the nerve impulses came first, as if the nerves were coming back to life or reconnecting somehow, then the judders and spastic locking effects started as function returned, now my arm is fully functional but weaker than before.

Are you using these products purely for the mirroring effects or to try and regain the function in the limbs.

Here's an example for anyone else reading this:

Simple, but so clever... ! 😉

There's lots being done in this area Cat, the devices are being developed for spinal and neurological conditions.

They seem to be replacing lost functions rather than retraining them though.

Yes, that's a stumbling block Richard. But, on a regular basis & wide scale, it could prevent muscle wastage, benefit circulation, heart/lung function etc. for hemiplegic folks, and speed up progress where recovery is possible.

It's always heartening seeing innovators coming up with stuff to improve quality of life. But I won't hold my breath for NHS hospitals to be equipped with such technology in the near future....🤔 x

I am using these products to try to regain function.

How is it going, is the function returning?

I'm asking because I'm wondering if a robot does the movements for you how would it connect to the 'intent to move' in the mind. Do you have to do other exercises without the robotics.

The thinking is that the robotics carry out the movements by compensating, relacing the brain functions that control movement. There would have to be some kind of mind exercise to go with it to induce the function in the brain, the intention to make the moves. The two functional, motor and intent, would not fire together otherwise.

The saying goes neurons that fire together wire together so movement and intention to move would have to be done together, hence my question - what mind exercises do you use with the robotics?

Just interested.

Hey there pink vision when I have the gloves on I have an iPad underneath the hand/glove and I am trying to rewire my brain coinciding with the movement actually seeing my palm open is so exciting as this 20 years gone nothing moved due to the severe contractures I bought the Syrebo it was within my budget. you can't expect health services to provide everything I live in Australia we have medicare. I also bought the dynamic arm which you attach to a table it cradles my elbow holds the arm at a natural height I just physically swing my arm not really a useful movement albeit it is movement, my wrist is bent like a lobster due to contracture my elbow locked due to contracture same as shoulder; I am going to buy the model which uses vocal command so I concentrate my brain entirely on a particular command eg open hand move digits eg pinch thumb and ring finger I was so impressed with their products and told them so they have given me a PROMO CODE I can pass on to others that may desire to purchase any products; giving me a fews $s I will have to search the code given I can't recall it I will probably use the $s to purchase Syrebo products,Look I had to learn to walk again;Once I got out of the wheelchair: I haven't looked back, I just desired to live my life again: all my therapists have been wonderful; we have the problem; they have the expertise in different fields to help us unlock our bodies. and they have pushed me in the right direction, I have developed a bond with them and trust. Hope this explanation answers your queries; Just keep trying ok

Hi philbou mine is left side hemiplegia my upper limb, limited function; got my lower limb working well, Have had 20 years botox started with lower limb, got walking with a cane probably 10 years ago decided more important to get walking getting out of a wheelchair had one functional upper limb you can only have a certain amount of botox cos its a poison, over a period of time it affects the muscle fibres. I walk ok ,with a cane know my limitations. Now I'm concentrating on upper limb. have severe contractures, just got the dynamic arm, very helpful to use with the glove. my arm used to sit quite high at my chest, presently it rests at belly height. Syrebo products great tools, you need good therapists i.e. knowledgeable you have the problem, they fix it. You make a good team ok. My TBI caused from domestic violence. I am 73 now. you can't live being a victim. you have to work steadily through it get your life back. Remember life is a gift; get living again.... Bless you, you will meet Mt. Everest everyday, so get climbing.
