Sorry outside of my experience, have seen other posts with the same or similar conditions so hopefully they will answer your request.

It might depend on who you've spoken with at the hospital Leanne. You shouldn't be abandoned after serous brain injury and invasive surgery.

You were so positive about moving forward and returning to work so if the pain is still unbearable after 19 months then someone needs to take your issues seriously and carry out further investigation.

Contact the original consultant via his secretary and tell him you're desperate for help. Or you can contact PALS who will listen to your concerns and intervene if necessary on your behalf.

Good luck m'love in getting help... Cat. x

I’ve spoken to my case worker and she is going to contact the consultants secretary I’m hoping she does this ASAP.

I’ve never heard of PALS I will have a look into that thank you so much for your message x

Yes, it's 'Patient's Advice & Liaison Service' and you can find the number for your particular hospital online. They're confidential and very helpful . We contacted them recently when my grandson was poorly but not being taken seriously ; they were brilliant ......and turns out he'd had Covid. x

Recently the best way I've found to illicit a response and have your case looked into as an individual is to post your current story on the Care Opinion website.

I'm no expert on anything but my own case but it sounds to me that the PTSD element is exacerbating your pain.

Are you getting any therapy to deal with your PTSD?

If so have you tried EMDR?

All of my counselling stopped in March I’ve had no help since then

I ended up paying for my counselling, the therapist worked on a sliding scale. There's a book I read (listened to, I prefer audiobooks) called "The Body Keeps The Score" by Dr Bessel van der Kolk, which led me to seeking out EMDR treatment. Chapter 15 onwards deals with the solutions available.

EMDR really helped with the PTSD. I'd feel awful and stormy headed for days after, but I persevered and after about 6 sessions, I began to feel a better 'sense of self'.

Sounds awful Lianne, can't help with advice, but hope you can get some help with the info here. Is there any publicly funded counseling service still running you can access? X

I’ve read your bio and I’ve tried to understand exactly what your injuries are that give you pain and I think it’s mostly from the brain damage?

I’m a similar age to you but I had my accident ten years ago and I fell on my back and I broke lots of ribs, back shoulder and neck. So now I do still get back pain and in lower back from walking and in my upper back the plate in my spine is often sore and I get nerve pain down my leg on my weak side.

I find that pain killers mean that I can relax and if I get very stiff either from doing too much or laying rest too much time then I do some stretches. Getting my body moving seems to help the pain. I think for stress and pressure feeling in my head then I really like being in the fresh air and feeling the wind blow it all away.

It is still early on for you and I’m sure that the doctors will find a way to help you.
