Get on the phone and ask for the mandatory review/appeal. Make sure that they have all the info to get in touch with your GP and brain injury specialists. Also contact the CAB or other agency that can help you deal with it, they know what they are doing, most of us 'brain jobs' shoot ourselves in the foot when dealing with the system. Don't despair this is a normal process, most awards are given at the madatory review or later appeals process. The system is designed that way. This was explained to me by the CAB, they said expect this, the real process begins after at the review and appeals stage.

Same situation here. I am waiting to see their verdict after a review. I was declined when I first applied over 3 years ago following major brain surgery and I didn't have the energy to even query it back then. This time, following stroke, I am bluddy determined to not just let it lie. Difficult though, isn't it? When they just don't "get" the issues we have to cope with. Good luck!

I had my PIP reduced to standard last year, even though there had been no change in my circumstances. I didn’t have the energy or know how to appeal as I really need to be left alone since my BI, everything is to much for me to deal with. Recently, I received the dreaded form asking if their are any changes, again I say NO with medical evidence from the hospital I attend weekly (not at present due to covid). Now I have had award on the standard rate to run for 4 years. Now circumstances have changed & daughter who did just about everything gone to Uni, so my adult son has moved back in to help (I don’t want man living in my house) lol, but I do need help. This time I have contacted Headway, who are helping with mandatory appeal, & requested I get my points awarded as they should never have been dropped in the first place.

Pat on back to myself, for doing something about the situation, & massive thank you to Headway for their help & support on the matter.

Will I go to appeal if they won’t budge? Maybe with help, we’ll have to wait & see

"do these people realise the trauma and after effects of brain surgery" - unfortunately it's your job to prove those effects under PIP and it's far from easy. If you compare the old DLA forms to PIP then there are a lot of similarities but the measures are different now and it's about doing (or not) rather than condition; although given the information they ask for then condition must count for something? Joining Benefits and Works (costs £20) for their guides is worthwhile IMO and I've also read many times about people have gone from 0 points to enhanced awards for both elements. You need to focus on the descriptors and where you should score points, and why, without criticising or being emotive. Just stick to the facts and evidence as best you can - just to add, I declined to apply for PIP despite having an envelope ready to go with completed forms and small amount of historical evidence I could muster.

You have to appeal Makes me soo angry this is still happening.i have had years of this.

You have to appeal. Get written evidence from family and friends

Write a diary. 2 weeks of how disabling your life is

Get in touch with headway

Ask for a referral to a welfare officer for health

This is what finally helped

You have a right to assistance

Take care and look at other posts for advice too
