2 weeks since I fell and banged my head

I found this forum and would welcome some advice. I’m in my sixties. 2 weeks ago I fell in the house. I was carrying the recycling box, tripped on a rolled up carpet and hit my head on a radiator when I fell. I knew about MTBI because I researched it after my brother was in a car accident. Although I was not knocked out, it was a hard blow to the head. I phoned NHS who said call your GP. GP chatted to me on phone but just said if I had x symptoms to get some help. It was nerve wracking, initially wondering if I might get worse. You would think that GPs would know about concussion. I read the info from Headway and have been trying to take it easy and get lots of rest. I have had headaches, insomnia, and feeling overwhelmed and exhausted from too much stimulation or decisions to make. This evening I feel anxious. Not sure if I am doing the right things.

Hi Coachv. I'm sorry you're feeling stressed since your fall. It's natural to suspect the bang to the head might have caused an injury to the brain but, unless your symptoms have worsened over the past 2 weeks, it's unlikely.

Nausea, dizziness, fatigue, confusion, headaches etc. are all symptoms of mild concussion (there may be others) and it's unlikely you have anything more serious unless you're losing consciousness, falling over, seriously disorientated or the headache is worsening despite pain killers.

Mild concussion can be unpleasant and it's a good idea to let a relative or friend know how you're feeling as their contact (even just phone calls checking how you're feeling) can reassure you and ease the anxiety. I'm unsure as to whether you live alone ?

Please come back to us tomorrow with an update. Also, you can phone the Headway helpline for advice on 0808 800 2244 and speak with friendly staff for extra support.......(free calls - office hours).

See you again soon...... Cat x
