Hiya all.

So 8 month ago I had a neurology appointment and I was referred to a neuropsychologist and after a long wait my appointment is next Thursday.

It’s a telephone appointment due to Covid-19 but that doesn’t stop me feeling anxious as it was sprung on me today.

Any advice on what to expect would be much appreciated.

Thanks 😬

Hi! I had a neuropsychology appointment about two and a half years after my brain injury. The lady I saw was very easy to talk to. I spent several hours with her. I had to have several breaks as I get severe cognitive fatigue. The appointment consisted of a lengthy chat/interview where I told my story and she asked questions. She told me that during the next break she would choose which tests to give me, based on what had emerged during the interview.

The tests were both verbal and pencil and paper. I had a break when I needed one.

She then told me that she would send me a draft report of her findings and I could have another appointment to discuss them with her. In all I had three appointments.

Nothing really came out of the appointments with regard to managing my brain injury as I had already had advice from Headway which I was following. The major thing that did emerge was a diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. My GP discussed treatments with me and I went for EMDR. I would have finished this by now, but Covid 19 means my sessions are currently suspended. The EMDR had been life changing and I am very glad to have had it.

I wish you all the best.🙂🌸

Thanks for the info Marnie22.

I can’t see them being able to test me with a pen to paper task as it’s an over the phone appointment but would be interested to see if I’m given a verbal test.

I’m thinking the phone appointment will be a get to know me and any problems of mine (cognitive & mental) and maybe a video/cam call for another appointment to carry out any kind of visual test. But I really don’t know.

Thanks again 😁

I hope it goes well. I recently had a telephone appointment with a doctor in neurological rehabilitation and that went okay even though it was over the phone.

One thing I meant to say is it's quite helpful if you have some notes on anything you want to ask, plus ask them to summarize things at the end of the call in case you want to write anything down. They shouldn't mind - anyone involved in neurology should understand why you might need this. 🤔🌸

Yea I’ll definitely be writing things down over the next week as my short term memory is shocking 🙄 thanks
