Eye clinic
Hi, that is such bad news. I'm sure your doing everything you can to comfort him but it must be so difficult for you both knowing what the future may be and the extra care you may have to give.
My wife has an ABI and waiting for a referal to eye clinic for the first time, possibly for the same reason as your husband.
Have you visited an eye clinic with your husband regularly or was this a sudden development ?
We need to start with a refereal from our ABI specialist which will be happening in a couple of weeks, is that also how the process started for your husband?
These are quite personal questions so please don't feel you need to answer them, I'm trying to understand the process so I know what might happen for us. I have been looking at possibility of private rather than NHS eye clinics but not having much luck locally.
Regards
Morning
Please ask me anything and if I can help I will, it’s a scary scary time isn’t it . My husband is on a rehab ward in Lincoln Hospital and I have to say it’s amazing! The first ward he was on was appalling I actually logged a complaint I felt the strongly about it. Anyway going back to eye clinic Husband has been on rehab ward two weeks we had our first meeting with consultant s Wednesday , both my husband and I mentioned our concern again regards his left eye , we were referred to clinic direct by the ward I think that’s why they sure husband so quick because still in hospital. I do hope your wife see’s someone very soon .
Keep positive ( I tel myself that each day )
Maxine
Hi Maxine, thanks for the detailed reply. Sorry for my lateness, its been one of those days where it hasn't gone to plan and the anxiety of a weekend visit from the in laws has been getting to me.
I'm sorry to hear your husband is still in hospital and not home with you, as carers we still help our loved ones even during thier stays away from home, both physically when nursing staff are busy and with extra love, hope and positivity in thier recovery.
Is there any plans for home visits or for your husband to come home soon?
My wife is home now 6 months after a long 9 month stay in various hospitals and rehab centres across the south.
Like your husband, It is also an issue with my wife's left side. were not sure if its connected to her having become paralysed on her left side before initial hospitalisation, she has since gained alot of strength and control through rehab in her left side. But is now developing issues with her sight.
We are supported by our local brain injury team and should be getting a referral from our ABI specialist at our 6monthly appointment in a couple of weeks, our local eye clinics in Southampton and Dorset all have 7months waiting time.
Maybe I need to explore if its possible for a private or self funded approach depending on the date we get given to attend a clinic. A 3 hour assessment does fill me with worry for my wife, have all of your assessments been this long?
Regards
Ric
Morning
I will reply at length tomorrow, big day today picking hubby up from hospital at 9 for a day at home .. excited but nervous
I had a stroke that left me unsighted on the right-hand side of each eye known as hemianopia. The DVLA Medical Group revoked my Group 1 (car) licence as I have less than 120 degress horizontal field of vision. I am one of up to 30 similar people whose complaint against the DVLA is being reviewed by the Parliamentary Ombudsman. The Ombudsman can't overturn the revocation but it may make it easier to regain the licence. The DVLA Vision Panel have at long last agreed that there isn't a clinical test that proves adaption to partial sight, so this may ease the path to being classified as an exceptional case and then on to a driving and cognitive assessment. The DVLA should have made the exceptional case criteria widely known: they haven't. The DVLA should permit up to three months of driving refresher lessons before the driving assessment: they haven't. It's complicated by the 120 degrees horizontal field is due to the adoption of the European Third Directive and, no one knows if it will apply after BREXIT. This is separate from the requirement to read a registration plate at twenty metres. I believe around 60,000 people have had their Group 1 licence revoked due to eyesight, but the DVLA were unable to say how many were due to having less than 120 degrees horizontal field of vision. The Parliamentary Ombudsman is considering whether there will be an overall report in the same vein as the "Driven To Despair" report in October 2016. I will report back once I know more.
Hi, please don’t give up hope just yet. I’m 3yrs post injury and havjng an assessment very soon. Totally stressed about taking a test after so many years not drifting x
