Does anyone else here with a brain injury get treated really badly by insurance companies? I recently tried to get some term life assurance, just to cover my mortgage as I wouldn't want to leave my family with nowhere to live if they lost my income. I am a bit cross that as soon as they hear the word 'brain' they don't want to know, even though I suffer few deficits from my BI. Either that or they give false hope due to wanting the business, keep you hanging around while they get a (really vague) GP's report and then refuse you on medical grounds with no further investigation.

Bad treatment by insurance companies
Have you tried Headway for information lcd ? They might have contacts in the insurance field with a better understanding of brain injury ; just a thought …….. Cat x
They are assessing the risk and therefore covering themselves, as I have pykd I have lived with this for 20+ yrs.
Thanks, yes I realise that. But I find it cheeky that you get judged really harshly no matter what the condition actually is. I have tried telling them a GP report is a waste of time (as they just outline the worst case scenario), they need to contact a Neuro. But they don't get it.
Yup your right, but they don't need to understand just cover their own backs, which means either no cover or as in my case with pykd (before my brain heamorrage) quotes on my mortgage insurance was twice the mortgage repayments. You will get cover but need to be extremely rich in the first place.
Can you use a broker? I work alongside an insurance company and approached our life insurance specialist for help as my partner is self employed. He has advised me to wait until my partner is 12 months post incident as companies will be more willing to give you cover and at a more favourable premium. I know my broker will be doing his best to find us the best cover in December!
