Thoughts on carbamazepine

Hi I’m just wondering if anyone has been prescribed carbamazepine to help with anger/aggression. If so did it help? Do you become dependent on them? Any side effects whilst taking these pills? I would like to know your thoughts. Thanks

Hello i am on Carbamazepine. I used to take keppra, but my family says i was shouting alot. Carbamazepine has definately calmed me down. My sleep is superb, they are like sleeping pills. I am not dependent on them. 🤔

Hi Dabb, I have taken carbamazepine for Trigeminal neuralgia following a serious head injury prescribed by my neuro rehabilitation consultant. I find that yes they did calm me down, but they flattened my emotions to an extent where I was on a emotionless plateau. I prefer to at least feel a frisson of reality.

Bearing in mind, my prescription was for a different objective, they would certainly calm you down if that is your desire.

Hi I have been taking Carbamazepine and then Carbamazepine retard for years but for uncontrolled epilepsy caused by congenital brain damage. As previous messages they do have side effects I can sleep for England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales too if given the chance... If sex an important part of your life you might not want to take these pills as they definitely reduce the urge! I feel I am quite an expert on Carbamazepine(I am 49 and have been taking it virtually continuously since I was a teenager) so please feel free to message me! Kate😀

Just another bit of advice if you intend to get try and get pregnant any time this might not be the right one to take!
