I can't see a Grizzly bear without thinking of the Werner Hertzog documentary 'Grizzly Man'...….about a young American guy, Timothy Treadwell, who spent 13 years camping amongst Grizzlies in Alaska and was eventually (along with his girlfriend) devoured by one.
Treadwell's own footage captured many encounters (including the final moments for he and his girlfriend), the latter of which has never been shown to the public.
Like most people I'm in awe of their magnificent appearance and power and can understand the desire to get close to them ..............but only in theory !
Like what you were saying, I love to watch bears or even most animals do there thing but couldn’t go near them.
One would be the smell,
Another would be the strength (if it were a bear or big animal like a cow or something),
And last of all they can be unpredictable... just like with the grizzlies you mentioned. Spend 13 years with one. Get to know it. Then your food. Gulp.
So none of what I mentioned is any reason to not like animals but I would prefer to view them from afar.
Some animals like dogs are fine. The smaller they are the safer... in some ways :).
It's true ; We should respect wild animals and admire them from afar instead of exploiting them to the point of extinction. My favourite 'person' as a child was Rupert bear (when mum gave me a doll and pram for Christmas I tossed the doll aside and pushed my teddy (Rupert) around). 😏
I do have a weakness for dogs though, and when they're tied up outside shops waiting for owners I can't resist petting & talking to them. It's pretty safe if tails wag when approaching ! 🐕 xx
