Nearly six weeks following surgery for fractured skull

Hi. I'm new here. Wonder if anyone can help please. Following a freak accident my husband had a fractured skull treated with immediate surgery six weeks ago. Staples taken out 10 days ago. District Nurses coming every other day to dress the wound but the end bit shows no signs of clearing up, in fact its quite manky. When I looked at it today it looked as though it had opened slightly. Today the nurse used a different dressing but its still leaking through. I suppose because its on his head the skin is quite stretched. I've left a message for the nurse. Anyone else been through this. Just looking for reassurance that it will get better eventually.

I didn't have an open head wound ; mine was a bleed on the brain. But a year later I needed a cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal) requiring three incisions for keyhole surgery. They tend to glue the openings rather than stitch them, but one wouldn't heal owing to infection so I was sent for aftercare at my local health centre.

I was surprised when the nurse explained he was using honey to dress the wound ……...never heard of honey for wounds. But it was Manuka honey and it worked like magic ! The nurse gave me the remainder of the small tube of honey and I used it subsequently for midge bites and a wasp sting and found it a really fast, soothing and effective healer.

Manuka is expensive but well worth the extra, and very safe. x

I had a TBI 5yrs ago over in France which resulted in my skull being cut in half to save my life. I had my skull reconstructed with Titanium back in the UK 4mths later. All went well apart from a blood infection a couple of months after the repair which bruised my head and had me back in hospital for 3mths whilst they sorted it out. Not the same as your hubbies but dealing with a skin issue is, dare I say, a more simple problem to resolve than handling with something in his head that they can't get their hands on. Good luck with it, I'm sure they will resolve it in the next couple of weeks. Take care of yourself.
