Feeling light headed permantly

Hi everyone, havent been on this for a while, I sustained a brain injury due to a car accident back in Oct 2016. Its been a couple of years strugging with vertigo/dizziness but as time has went on the dizziness has settled but still feeling lightheaded although not dizzy if that makes sense. I ok in my home, Im back working again & Im ok in the office but when I venture out in the open, its very overwhelming. Does anyone else feel like this or any suggestions? Havent been to my GP yet.

👋 Maybe, It could be anxiety because you say your ok at home and in the office, your safety places but when you go out you become anxious so our blood pressure can go up, or it can drop and when that happens we become light headed. So maybe you need to have a sweet drink or a chocolate bar before you go out. It’s similar to a panic attack. Try to listen to music when you go outside just something to take your mind off the big outside world where people just rush around not looking and rush, rush, rush and your brain can’t cope with all the anxiety you see. Hope it helps Love Liz 🌹🙏

Also do go and speak with your doctor! If you can get an appointment. X

Maybe it is anxiety. If you overbreath, that can make you go a bit light headed.

You do not feel like you are going to fall over. Does the room feel like it is spinning like you are drunk?

Also do you feel like your limbs are in the same place as you can see them. Disequilibrium as opposed to vertigo where head is spinning.

I get both, made worse by walking with visual disturbances and the onset of fatigue.

Really hard to explain though. Generally my GPs response has been if you can stand up and walk in a straight’ish line then you are not to bad.

You can also get crystals in your inner ear and GP can do a manoeuvre to dislodge them, worth a try even after long standing ABI.

I've had light-headed/dizziness since long before the haemorrhage in 2011 with no real diagnosis apart from Vertigo, but since the haemorrhage it's more persistent. Various tests & consultations later, the consensus is management rather than treatment. The only thing which offered relief for me was Stemetil, which now has been stopped owing to incompatibility with other meds.

Although it's a 24/7 problem it's probably more severe outdoors because gait and balance is more 'exposed' to others so there's more self awareness, and also as there isn't the steadying influence of household furniture, walls, doorframes etc.

And also I think we perceive space differently when outdoors. Indoors we only need spatial awareness from one room to another whereas out in the streets we face large open areas but, within them, quite narrow parameters to avoid crashing into others along pavements etc.

Ask your GP for tests and maybe, in the meantime, some Stemetil to boost your confidence for venturing outdoors..... Good luck in finding relief m'dear ; it's a challenging problem. Cat x

Hello,

I have a similar problem. I have a hypoxic brain injury. I saw the neurologist as they thought it was connected to the brain injury. I had a brain scan and everything looks OK with it. I had a cardiac arrest so also see a cardiologist. The neurologist has discharged me and sent me back to the cardiologist. They have found that when I stand up my blood pressure drops down really low so they are going to do some more tests.

I would definately go to your GP to get it checked out

Thank you all for your replies. I would like to visit the GP however, if I try to explain, I really don't think they'll take me serious. I did email the helpline, & they gave me great advice by making a suggestion to my GP to be referred to a Neuro-physiotherapist or a Vestibular Therapist. I might call first & speak to the GP over the phone as Im not that long back to work & don't want to take time off. I really do appreciate you all. I will post back if I get any further

I think you should go to your gp and get it looked at properly …
