Soemthing I had written last year whilst recovering from a severe depression, thought it may help some of us recovering from a brain injury

Safe Place

What do you see when you relax and close your eyes?

Darkness at first, but then colours start to emerge from the abyss.

Memories, fantasies, dreams of what might be.

A personal silent movie for you to direct.

To be able to see your loved ones and pets, alive, or not, whenever you wish, is truly a blessing that we all take for granted.

Take a moment and start your own story, see where your path begins and which way you turn.

Are you in your dream cottage, with Apple trees in the garden, children running round your feet playing with your great Dane as he bounds round the lawn.

Or have you ventured further, taken yourself on your dream vacation with all the people that you love. Walking barefoot through the warm sand as the sea tickles around your feet.

Further still? Soaring high above the mountain tops, blue sky as far as the eye can see. Birds flying around you and playing as the wind blows through your hair.

Everybody needs a safe place.

Somewhere special that they can visit whenever they choose.

Somewhere you can forget about all your aches and pains, your worries and stress.

Somewhere to visit your fallen comrades, or to visit your pets that have crossed over the rainbow bridge.

It can help you to keep grounded and put your issues into perspective.

To see the smiles of your grandparents as they tell you how proud they are of you.

To see your fallen angels to tell them that you love them and that someday you will be able to join them, but if they ever need you they can always come to your safe place.

We are blessed to have this ability, use it and keep yourselves strong. Whatever is bothering you, whatever burdens weigh you down, just know that your safe place is available whenever you choose.

Take five minutes to go on an adventure, create the story of a lifetime and rest just for now, just for a moment.

Things do get better, but helping yourself by taking this time is fundamental in your recovery.
