Hi all my husband has anoxic brain injury and he does really well in inpatient rehab. The last time he was inpatient was a year ago. I came up with the suggestion to his doctor that he should go inpatient again because it will be good for intensive therapy since he has just been at home, she said great idea. The facility she wanted him to be in does not accept his insurance that she is affiliated with and she knows this. I told her I found in network hospital, but then I get a call saying she does not think he needs inpatient now? I am his full time caregiver so I’m trying to get him help and myself so that I can work again. She also denied his Botox for his left arm saying he has no muscle? Which he already received three month prior! She’s has a heavy patient load I don’t know what to do? I’m thinking of moving back to the town we left because they have a better medical system. But I don’t have any family there, I’m so annoyed, any suggestions or advice on going against doctor orders??

Going against doctor
If you're in the UK it's quite acceptable to ask for a second opinion and wouldn't be considered going against doctor's orders if you chose to follow the advice of another. Your husband is entitled to the best possible care, but if you're in the US I understand how insurance can be an issue whereas here it's more a problem with shortage of beds and long waiting lists.
Do whatever you need to do in finding the best possible quality of life for you both. It seems outrageous that you'd have to move home to get access to rehab for your man. The last thing you need in a highly demanding situation is more obstacles & anxiety. Is it possible to make contact with the original neuro consultant and ask for support ? I'm sorry for your troubles and hope you'll find a way through this. Cat x
