Improving dexterity

Hi, after brain injury in March followed by haemorrhage and L sided paralysis, function much improved to full independence but.... left hand still weak, drops things of its own accord and fingers stiff.

Came on so well in rehab but don't do anything for hand any more.

Anyone used games/ puzzles / balls etc to improve function and keep interest ? Pic up sticks with grandkids too fiddly. Thinking scrabble maybe... can anyone share any successes?

Thanks Anne

I made Lego models with my left hand after stroke, and also carried on with theraputty exercises provided by OT, daily for about the first 18 - 24 months or so. I also used a peg board which I used with different combinations of fingers. I think it all helped. Most of all though was to remember to keep using my left hand in day to day activities. Good luck!

This seems a simple aid to improving dexterity Anne, and by keeping a sponge ball at hand you can use it anywhere.........….even watching TV, chatting or in bed ! (my niece just used a firm, basic cleaning sponge).

This next one is a proven therapy for tricking the brain that the weak hand is working equally well as the good one, and so speeds up rewiring in the brain. You can achieve the same effect with a mirror and cardboard box.
