Hello, 5 weeks ago my son who is 20 years old, had Titanium Cranioplasty , he has recovered very well and has returned to work this week as an Electrician, apart from when he moves his head (not all the time) he feels quite dizzy for about 3 seconds, I know he is still in recovery but is this quite normal, thanks for your help

Hi, has your son's dizziness gone away yet? My son, who is 18, had a PEEK implant cranioplasty 5 weeks ago and I am wondering about two of his symptoms. He complained of dizziness for one whole day last week and currently has fluid retention at the surgical site. The plate is on the left side of his head following an accidental gun shot that travelled from under his left eye/temple area to the back of his head. The bullet remains and will not be taken out. I'm wondering if it's normal to have so much fluid still 5 weeks after surgery. If I touch his skin above his ear, the effect is similar to touching a waterbed. I have called both of the surgery teams and they seem to not be concerned. "Both teams" consist of neurosurgeons and oral/maxillofacial surgeons. The OMF team removed a bullet fragment deep within his condylar joint next to his ear canal. His face near his ear is not yet symmetrical to the other side because I'm assuming all the swelling has not gone down (as well as the fluid retention). I've read it could take up to 8 weeks for recovery following cranioplasty. Has anyone else experienced dizziness and fluid retention this long after cranioplasty?
