People with TBI really need much more serious and professional help from the NHS with rehabilitation and life. My wife is STILL being denied a UK visa and the British embassy do not help at all. How am I expected to cope with life with TBI and do all this paperwork? Life is quite impossible and there is nobody to help. The NHS is not paying attention and I am STILL awaiting responses to emails as I need my original medical records from 1983. Seriously things need to improve and STILL the Police did not follow up the insurance claim for compensation from the road incident in 1983.
Our roads are deadly yet the Government does noting for road safety and noting to help TBI victims. We need to get our priorities right and ensure safety for cyclists and get the VW, BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Porsche 9-11 types of thing OFF Our Roads so that British roads are safe. It is not rocket science it is basic common sense!
The NHS must take responsibility for helping family reunification other wise they might as well have switched off the life support machine. What is the point in living if you are denied a happy family life due to mindless UK Home Office bureaucracy?
I checked out your website and you have clearly spent much time on it which shows you have focus, dedication and a good command of the English language despite your TBI. The process of acceptance is in recognition of your strengths today, what you do well, so congratulations.
You mentioned in your first post 10 days ago that you had a carer. Perhaps they know someone who could help you fill in your forms or indeed they may be able to help you?
Regarding World Peace, I have found it starts within ourselves. TBI can result in the area of the brain responsible for emotional response (and specifically anger) being overly active. Your brain is a bunch of chemicals working together in synergy. Chemicals are simply out of balance after an injury. Once we are able to live each day without anger, we are contributing to World Peace in a way we have most control over. Mindfulness meditation is a daily activity which highlights our thoughts as we objectively observe them without reaction and just let them float away like clouds in a blue sky. It can have profound effect on your breathing, which in turn calms the vagus nerve, which in turn supports the healing ability of the brain.
Constant anger (sometimes without cause) leads to standing still in brain recovery terms. The nervous system must be calm and quiet so it can listen to what the brain needs and send the right nutrients in to heal. Anger shouts too loudly and disallows healing to move forward.
On a social level, anger is an energy which others pick up on quickly. Humans are social animals connected on an etheric level. Some people know who is calling on the telephone before they pick up the phone. This ability to read others emotions from a distance is held by many. Daily anger sends out signals which tell people to stay away. If you work on sending out positive energy, help will arrive somehow.
This little planet called Earth is as complex as the human brain. Just like the brain within weeks after a stroke new blood vessels begin to form, newly born neurons migrate long distances to the damaged area to aid in regeneration and recovery. Politics will always be there with those who think themselves stronger and richer than others and exert their control to get feedback on their sense of worth. Mindfulness meditation will guide you to discover your sense of worth without having to absorb others struggles, encouraging peaceful thought which results in peaceful days and nights and faster recovery. Lifelong brain plasticity makes it possible for the brain to repair years later.
Headway is a great resource and support and their helpline is open tomorrow, Monday so if you gave them a ring, they may have some ideas around your needs going forward.
Thank you for posting with such passion, another good quality. Acceptance for me was when I turned my passion inwards towards my recovery and focused on just that. I'm pleased with the results and quality of life I have today.
Still going forward! Nearly five years in and he is still changing. Having relearned EVERYTHING again, we are now almost in the ‘fine tuning’ stage (which might take another five years...). He is working on his coordination still, he trains at least three times a week, he drives, has taken to kayaking and a few other sports, has begun volunteering with a team of neuro physiotherapists (as part of their team). Still has real problems with memory recall and word finding in conversations BUT he is getting there! X
Great to hear your news. I'm glad to hear he is has training and sports back in his life. If active before a BI, this can create a sense of a return to normality. It also regulates breathing which supports brain healing. Fine tuning stage sounds excellent and what an asset he must be to that particular volunteer activity! That was a good find! Memory and recall will come with practice. Many online memory games to stretch capability. All the Best.

not the NHS fault the NHS saved you FOR FREE despite being at breaking point so don't go blaming a FREE GOVERMENT ran organisation and again stop advertising your service.
Clearly your pro cycling and anti-car come move to Bristol but it sure as hell aint working depisite the amout of government funds we are pouring in to put in new cycle routes and bus transports
"People with TBI really need much more serious and professional help from the NHS with rehabilitation and life"
If the NHS "didn't take TBI seriously" there wouldnt be a medical field called neurology, there would be no need for research neurologist to do (as much as I hate it) animal testing to figure out how to produce all the various medications and strategies, there would be no point in services like outreach centres or rehabilitation centres .
You try and find records from over THIRTHY FIVE years ago.
"The NHS is not paying attention " again I believe the NHS are doing a hell of a lot more than you realise like the amount of lives they are saving, the amount of lives they are change again: FREE GOVERMENT SERVICE If you think the NHS isn't up to your standard there are things call PRIVITATSION routes you can go down where you can pay people then see how good the NHS is !!!!!
It is not a free government service we pay for the NHS through taxes. My point is that if the NHS did help then it would actually save money. If I had not been denied a GP due to my wife not being with me then I could have got the help I needed. There are many examples of the NHS missing people who need help. Many people are living on the streets who would like to work but cannot. It is a valid and reasonable point to make that the NHS ought to do more to help TBI patients. Headway needs more funding too. Investing in people with disabilities and providing public bus services will actually make our economy stronger. Many people are suffering from the lack of accessible GPs and mental health services are needed desperately as well as a local bus for those of us who cannot drive.
Let's try our best to Save Our NHS by stopping risk on our roads.
