Having made the links to my TBI and day to day functioning now made the trip to my GP.referral was sent to neurospecialists only to be told that I don't meet ACC concussion criteria for my injury as was so long ago.
This makes me so frustrated and angry that they can put this "time limit" on an injury which potentially is going to affect me my whole life, and that was never picked up at start.just can't afford private referral 😔 Which is only option left I'm aware of.
Gives me again such little faith in our medical profession.is this not their overlooked mistake?should it have been them that followed up my severe TBI 16 years ago?so why do I have to pay and suffer for this?
So frustrating

i worked for a guy who owned a care home in worthing w. sussex he could turn on a sixpence all we knew was hed had a car acccidend, it wasnt until i had my stroke 6 years ago, which left me with a tbi, that i realised what he was about.
i did i it the other other way round, got referred to a psychiatrist first and he referred me to a neuro psychiatrist.
Jonathan, I'm confused as to why concussion has become the keyword. Surely the lack of investigation means that, despite a serious head injury and lasting symptoms consistent with brain trauma, no diagnosis has ever been reached.
'So long ago' is irrelevant where brain injury's concerned........ Is it possible that your GP put forward the concussion theory ? Cat x
Hi, can you approach a different doctor with a list of your symptoms and ask what tests can be done for any potential diagnosis?
They may scan and identify issue then refer.
Or they may refer to alternative support therapies or groups.
Could you ask your GP to consider referring you for neuro-psychology testing by a neuro psychologist. That way it would be established whether it was 'concussion' which would have largely resolved or whether what you sustained was a more serious brain injury with permanent damage. The testing would establish what areas of your brain have been affected and indicate your difficulties. Then it can be decided if you need referral to other neuro specialists.
The ACC services may be dedicated to the first 12 months after the injury, I believe this is fairly common.
If that's the criteria in your area then you probably need a referral to a different service, although you would expect this to have been mentioned by the specialist
