Would you ask a plumber to give your car an MOT?

Of course you wouldnt but the Government is asking someone to do an assessment on someone when their health condition isnt part of their training.

A plumber and car mechanic both work with metal

My Mums a retired neuro nurse so maybe i should do assessments?

I agree, pips is a flawed system and it appears everyone is subjected to exactly that and a tick box scoring system administered by people not understanding conditions and needs but affecting people so negatively another cruelty of sufferers with life changing disabilities.

Hi Spidey,

I’ve thought long about this post before replying. I understand where you are coming from but they have to start somewhere, and the initial assessment is very basic. I had to agree that I could do all they asked, and they don’t need medical training for that, I could pick up a full 2 litre jug and move a box along a table, I could walk 50 yards and sit in a chair, I could understand instructions and communicate well, but it needed to go to the next level where medical knowledge was needed, and so it was.

I can run the house of a fashion, there are many housekeeping duties I cannot do and the fatigue means lots of rests which employers couldn’t deal with plus in emergency I would need someone to accompany me to safety, another no- no for many working environments.

Being able to work and being medically able to work are two different issues and need to be assessed separately.

Ask for the interview to be recorded in advance of the meeting, it is your right. This can be forwarded to experts if required for second opinion. Also quality control can pick up any issues with the interviewer not asking the second and third questions drilling down on particular points as they are trained to do but it is a skill and they are human and they make mistakes.

When sat in front of the select committee it was revealed none of the companies carrying out PIP's achieved their quality target. To put it another way, many mistakes are being made, recordings are not made, interviewers are badly trained, quality control assessment of interviews is inconsistent and sporadic, and they have yet to reach their target of a certain number of interviews achieving the quality they hoped for.

It is a mess. It is a scandal. The MP's interviewing the panel were visibly shocked at the answers, mouths hanging open. The PIP companies dodged the questions with weak answers, they came across to me as immoral human beings without conscience, care or pride in their work. And because vulnerable people are on the receiving end, who don't exert their rights like a happy healthy confident person, it has been allowed to continue.

Ask for it to be recorded. It is your protection down the line.

Best of luck and best wishes to you.
