Looking for a way to have more positive dreams during sleep.

Since my brain injury, my dreams have mostly sucked, unfortunately. It is quite demotivating. Usually the dreams are about situations that are highly stressful and/or negative, me going through them and trying to get out of bad situations. Does anyone else experience this? And has anyone found ways to improve their dream content during sleep? Everyone in this community is normally always so helpful and positive, I thank you in advance.

Strange, I also get similar ones, not bad dreams but a very weird. Quite often they will wake me up, not because I am distressed but that I have reasoned something isn't right and have to snap myself out of that train of thought.

Never looked at finding a solution - but an interesting idea

Any sleep will do with , or , without dreams . Good or bad . I seem to discuss anything and everything with myself , so I end up feeling wasted the next day .

It's very difficult when you cannot sleep and are having energy draining dreams. I still get them now and then but not as much. I find that if I have some quiet time about a couple of hours before bedtime. That's no TV no Internet no phone just lay on my bed take gentle breaths in and out close my eyes and image a nice warm sunny day on a beautiful tropical beach. I also relaxed my body bytensing each part for a few seconds then releasing it so it feels as light as a feather. Give it go see how you get on and I wish you a better nights sleep.

I'm a TBI boy. Put simply my dreams simply reflect my mentality. If I'm sad, depressed, under pressure I won't sleep well. If I'm positive & constructive I'll sleep well. Easily slept 10hrs over the last few nights, only been woken up by my watch that alerts me every morning at 8am.

Hope this will work out for you to.

Like you I have dreams in fact quite odd ones. I am stuck in a prisoner of war camp, I am not old enough to have been there. Another one is I am being chased down the road by an aircraft from 2nd world war. Nobody knows why I have these dreams only had my TBI last September. I am getting some help and they are not so prevalent at the moment.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of help are you getting that seems to be helping.

Have had an assessment by neuro-psychologist, with coping strategies, including talking to someone other than family is working. They keep telling it will all take time, can be a little impatient though!

"talking to someone other than family" Now this sounds like a very great idea. Are you talking with a friend or a counselor? I sure need to be able to talk with someone else too. Thanks again.

It is a psychologist that has been assigned after the initial assessment. Also I joined a group called Headway, the people there help a great deal as well, lots of people like me, and we all talk to each other

Hi Sca

Can't speak for anyone else but 2 things that have worked for me are........

Taking my high dose Omega oils after my evening meal.

But the big one is pick 3 words that make you smile/feel good. Preferably not people but inanimate objects. As soon as you begin to get ready for bed start saying these words out loud and repeating them even when you get to bed.

It has worked for me and a few other people who have tried it. I even have a backup set of words just in case my brain decides to get bored with the ones I am using.

Love n hugs

If it helps my first choice of words are

Bubbles, rainbows and butterflies.

Since taking CBD oil before bed I've noticed it's helping me to sleep better and dream more. I can remember having some positive dreams which I didn't normally have, when I first started taking it, although in the few months that I've taken it I've also had fearful dreams. I don't know if you can change the type of dreams you have, it's more a reflection of the experiences, thoughts and feelings you've had during the day/week/month/year. Also if you're stressed out you're more likely to have negative dreams so try and address that and practice good sleep hygiene.

Lavender is supposed to be a useful sleep aid, but I haven't tried it.

I find the best sleep aids are sticking to a strict wake-sleep schedule, getting up early, exercising during the day at least 6 hours before bed, no screen use in bed or about an hour before bed (these emit light in the blue wavelength that keep you awake), make sure curtains/blinds don't block out the light at sunrise so you can wake up naturally, keep the room well ventilated and not too warm or cold as being too warm can prevent you falling asleep whilst being too cold especially during the coldest part of the night (just before sunrise) can wake you up.

Yes I had a similar experience with the CBD oil. I'll use your sleep ideas and see how it goes. As to waking up to daylight, I haven't been able to sleep past about 6 AM for years. So I am usually up around 5 AM, before daylight comes. Thank you.

That's interesting, did you continue to take it? We all have different body clocks, but experiencing light in the morning resets it so that 24 hours later we'll wake up again, so the advice is to go outside after waking up. Waking up during the night before it's time to get up is one of the symptoms of depression. The best thing you can do to help sleep is to do some outdoor exercise first thing in the morning, easier said than done.

Barny, I'm at a loss as to how to use my CBD oil. I bought the blue from CBD brothers and assumed I was all set for stress & pain relief, using it 3 times daily under the tongue.

But after some serious staining of my teeth with the brown oil I thought maybe vaping would be the solution.

But I've been unable to find a satisfactory method of vaping as I've read that the oil needs to be diluted for that purpose.

I spoke to CBD brothers who said their oil isn't intended for vaping, so three weeks on I'm back to square one with CBD oil I can't use.

The answer would've been to bin the blue edition and use the white but that's just too expensive ! Any ideas ? ..................bit fed up now !! x

I don't seem to experience staining, maybe I do but don't notice it? But plenty of people drink tea/coffee despite the staining it can cause. I tend to use it in the morning and before bed so I use my electric toothbrush soon after so perhaps that prevents staining?

I don't have experience of vaping CBD, I only consume it orally so I can't help there. I've never smoked so I'm less inclined to see vaping as a healthy practice, even if that is the case. But my understanding is that it's a more effective way of getting cannabis into the body than oral consumption as a lot of it doesn't get absorbed after going through the gut, in fact more gets absorbed sub-lingually under the tongue hence why you should keep the oil there for a few minutes.

Nevertheless, I go off feel and I'm happy enough in my belief that it helps me to sleep better and perhaps it helps with anxiety too, so I'll carry on taking it orally.

What was the reason they gave you for telling you to choose the white edition? Looks like the white edition contains less CBD plant extract and more hemp seed oil compared to the blue edition. This is weird as the blue edition is the cheapest, the plant extract contains the CBD you want not the hemp seed oil which contains beneficial omega fats nevertheless. So I could well imagine with more dilution there'd be less staining.

I don't understand the massive difference in price either, although the white has higher concentration ; 30%white-25%blue (per 10ml).

Also some people have mentioned that the blue had no effect, but after switching to white the effects were dramatic.

And I've read enough about it now to understand the issue of if losing its effectiveness in the digestive system.

Anyway, thanks for taking the trouble to reply Barny. x

barny1 profile image
barny1 in reply tobarny1

It looks like the blue and white editions use different strains of the cannabis plant. The blue one uses the 'sativa' strain and the white one uses the 'indica' strain. Some websites claim they have differing effects on the user, I don't know if one is superior to the other as I've only tried the blue sativa oil.

The blue edition actually contains more of the plant extract 2000mg/10ml vs 500mg/10ml for the white edition, but what's more important is the CBD content which is 25% for the blue edition which means you get 500mg CBD/10ml whereas for the white you get 30% of 500mg which is 150mg CBD/10ml. Granted, maybe one type of CBD is more potent, who knows?

Hope you get to vape it eventually if that's what you'd prefer, but I must admit I don't understand this staining issue, surely you could just brush your teeth straight afterwards? :/

cat3 profile image
cat3 in reply tobarny1

No Barny. it wasn't just temporary discolouration but deep staining on the lower teeth so no amount of scrubbing brought it off.

Luckily I had some tooth whitener left over that I'd bough from my dentist (essentially bleach) and that seems to have done the trick.

I was quite happy using the drops under the tongue method 'til this happened ; didn't mind the taste either (though someone on the CBD brothers site described it as tasting like engine oil).

Maybe some of us have more porous teeth than others ? :D x

barny1 in reply tocat3

Ok, there's no shame in vanity ;)

Do you brush manually or electrically? I only ask because I find a lot of the older generations are reluctant to change to electrical toothbrushing, even though it gives a better clean.

I use electric Barny. x

How are you taking the oil? whn I looked it says don't ingest.

barny1 in reply topleyland

I take the oil sub-lingually (under the tongue) keeping it there for a few minutes then swallowing. The oil I take is for consumption, others are meant to be vaped.

sca seems to me things are going on during the day and your going to bed and trying to sort while youre asleep.

i think you could do with a little meditation therapy before bed. easily done, close your eyes clear your mind anditll feel as if your off the bed.

you may not be able to do it for very long at firsst but whenyou open your eyes youll be relaxed and ready for a full nights undisturbed sleep.

give it go it took me a while .
