Several friends have told me they have been contacted by a new scam doing the rounds. A very smart sounding person on a recorded message says that 'you are about to be prosecuted in the High Court for ,,,,,,,, (this seems to vary but tax evasion is one thing). To discuss this with a police officer, press 1.' Although it is obvious in the light of day that this is a scam, someone not very aware could well be frightened by this. If they press 1, they will find that the crooks will obtain access to all sort of information.
Please warn anyone you think could be taken in by this.
Thanks Jan. The likes of you & I would just hang up and think no more about it but, like you say, old or vulnerable people could be panicked by it and fall prey. I'll pass it on !
When I get these calls I always say, 'please could you hold on for a second - thers someone at the door' and then I leave them hanging on for however long it takes them to realise they're havjng their time wasted.
what you should do is tell them you will listen to them but they will have to listen to what you have to say first, here we go , I want to talk and tell you about God ,at this point they hang up works well with all cold calls
Thanks for the heads up. This scam artist is must be running this scam internationally since I am in the USA and this happened to me more than once. Also, they have a version of pretending to be from the IRS and government going to come after you with Marshalls for back taxes. Heck I get thousands back every year I over pay so much so I knew it was a scam. Then next they'll try to make you think you're getting prosecuted in our Supreme Court which is the US's highest court. These crooks are sure clever and work to scare the pants off people that's for sure. Thanks again for the warning. I contacted our FBI and FTC about it and they feared it was happening in more places than just the US. Be Safe.
