Follow up care.

Hi all,

I've received a letter today from the Critical care directorate where I was treated offering me a 'follow up appointment'

I will be able to speak to a neuro nurse specialist and a consultant about my care at the hospital, how I'm coping, any issues or problems I'm facing etc. And if necessary they will refer to a psychologist and psychiatrist.

This is new, and has never been offered before at this hospital.

Maybe, just maybe, the aftermath and aftercare for people who have suffered a TBI is finally being taken more seriously.

I'm quite looking forward to going.

Just wondering if anyone else has been to a similar appointment at their hospital?

Wow how great is that!! I remember at last year's (November) SAH Conference In London, so many people in the audience (patients and carers) really kicked up stink about the complete lack of follow up care available to brain injured. The 'Expert' panel of Speakers made assurances they would take immediate steps to ensure patients/carer's received quick adequate aftercare. I think they really meant it too!! Here just might be the proof!!

Hi,

Yes, I've had fantastic support from a neuropsychologist. Coping strategies shown and reassurance about why some things are happening have been invaluable. Also support with post trauma issues have helped. I hope you find it helpful

Hey Ellie, I received today in the post a referral to see a Neuro-psychologist at the beginning of February. I'm really looking forward to it!!

I'm in South Wales, was treated at the University hospital of Wales (Heath) in Cardiff.

This is the first time the service has been offered at this hospital, I'd never heard of anything like it before. Hope it gets rolled out across the country as I'm sure it would be beneficial to many people.

I haven't either. Hopefully if it gets good feedback other hospitals will follow suit.
