Waking up the brain

Has anyone taken amantadine in the early stages after brain injury? Or care for someone who has? If so, how was it withdrawing? The neuro consultant from hospital said we could start reducing the doseage, this was last year and I'm not sure if he's a bit more fatigued from that or just over working his brain.

each time my neurologist has reduced me from medication, theyve written it down so i know what dose and which week i start that dose.

when she reduced my epilim because of weight problems, it took 5 months before i was fully weened onto my new meds.

it does say this drug reduces fatigue in ms sufferers so that could be the cause of his fatigue, but youd really need take him to see his gp or ask a pharmacist.

The pharmacist asked me why he was taking it, as she said it was for parkinsons. I will ask though and I will see how he is over the weekend, I had hoped to wean him off them, but I don't want him to struggle.

His consultant just left it to us to reduce it, well me as he doesn't remember what he takes and when. She never said anything about side effects or how long to leave gaps of reducing, which having read about amantadine, she should really have given more information.

id go to your gp, he would have received her letter and would be in either a better position to give you advice or contact the neuro consultant at the hospital, so the gp is able to advise you on how to go about weening him off it.

I rang the hospital and managed to get advice from his consultant, via her secretary and he is back on the 2 in a morning. He is a lot better already :-) . Thank you Steve, for the advice.
