If the knee is the thing that is worrying you most right now ask for a referral to physio. It has helped a few people I know. I think it has something to do with strengthening the muscles and that takes some of the pressure off the joints.
Again welcome and feel free to ask any questions, have a bit of a rant or share your progress.
Hi Mikey and welcome. What treatment do you have, if any, for your knee ?
I have arthritis in all my joints for which I receive regular steroid injections to ease the pain and stiffness. It isn't a perfect fix but does provide periods of respite from the discomfort.
Have you any after-effects from the SAH ? I had mine in Dec2011 and have memory and balance issues. Cat x
Hi, ive had a couple if steroid injections plus nirmal painkillers and i do strengthening exercuses. Befire the SAH i could cooe with it but nit so much niw, i have a referall on 23rd of this month so we'll have to see.
Oh yes that is a result. Hope the wait won't be too long Mikey. Partial resurfacing ?................never heard of that ; I'm getting left behind these days by all the new surgical practices but I'll Google it.
Hope all goes well and it makes a new person out of you ! See you later Mikey, Love Cat xx
Only half the joint is affected so a full knee replacement isn't necessary, The doc described it as "half a new knee". Recovery time is about half that of a conventional new knee joint and he said I'd be able to put weight on it straight away, Sounds too good to be true! Apparently the procedure was developed at Southampton hospital. Bring it on say I!
Yes Mike I've just watched the op on Youtube and it's fascinating seeing how it all works.
And the the implant itself is an ingenious invention which, as you say, halves the recovery time for patients and reduces the level of discomfort massively. I have an arthritic knee so maybe I should get my name down too.
Make sure you post us an update as soon as you're 'up and running' !! xx
Oh great ! Thanks for the update Mike. I hope all goes really well and I'll be expecting the lowdown from you after the next couple of weeks.
I'm especially interested as my elbow has become a nightmare this past few weeks ; keeps me awake at night & so sore to the touch. The steroids aren't working & I can't take anti-inflammatories so this is offering me some hope for possible relief.
Best wishes Mike for your new pain-free, athletic knee !! Cat x
