Moving Home

Hi my son has been offered a ground floor flat, which we are all delighted about. He is in receipt of pip and esa. Does anyone know if he can get help with the costs of the move. Or could he get assistance with the physical side of the move. He has no family near him, he lives in England, his Dad is in Scotland and I am in Northern Ireland.

It may depend on where he is moving from because if it's some kind of supported/rehabilition living then I think he would be helped. Not sure if PIP or ESA would access funding for the move but means tested benefits like Income Support may mean he could get money from something like a support fund to help with moving costs. I think he would need to ring the local authority where he is living and ask as each authority may vary slightly on their criteria. Otherwise contact Citizens Advice because they would be able to advise on what is available to him.

I echo Strawberry Creams advice to visit your local advice Centre

Has he discussed his needs with you local council

Hi if he receives income based ESA - he may be entitled to an increase in ESA if he lives alone and no one receives carer's allowance for looking after him. Also local authorities now have funds to purchase essential equipment (depending on where he lives)
