I am so saddened to hear that you have felt that you had to self harm yourself since year 10. Am wondering whether you have been offered any help to talk through the reasons underlying why you do this to yourself. If you have kept it hidden and not shared your troubles with anyone else I suggest you go to your GP and explain what is happening and ask for a referral for help. You are clearly saying you are upset that you are damaging yourself so maybe now is the time to commit to accepting help as even if you've had some before maybe you weren't with the right mindset to really recognise and desire to stop as it will have been a way of expressing yourself perhaps when things were not going well or you were feeling very negative about yourself. Best wishes

I agree with all Caroline (StrawberryCream) has said. Have you ever discussed this issue with a health professional Shannon ?

It'll be a hard habit to break I'm sure, but with help you could learn other, less damaging, ways of releasing emotion so that this can become a thing of the past.

You say it's been your way of coping since year 10 ; so what age are you now ?

Hi

You can overcome this. Someone very close to me was self harming at a similar age to you and came out the other side. As others have mentioned you need to get some help, if you can go to your go who will be able to refer you to someone. If you can't face going to see someone, then at least seek some advice over the phone.

Hi Shannon,

I'm so sorry to hear that. Life can be really tough some times, but it does get better.

You've taken a very good step by talking about it on here. I hope you can take the next step and find some help with whatever is making you feel the need to self-harm.

All the best,

Rob

Hi Shannon

I use to bang my head on the wall when I was young suffering from migraines, and I guess you too are trying to distract yourself from some other pain. There are people out there who can help you to be clear about where that other pain in your life is coming from, and then work with you to help you make it go away, and then the head - banging will stop.

You are right that you are putting yourself in real danger with this, which of course isn't what you want, you just want the pain to go away.

Are you still in school? Is the a teacher or so one the you could speak with? If not it probably needs to be your GP practice, but you might find it easier to speak to a nurse in the first instance . They will need to refer you to a specialist team who deal with this sort of situation.
