I feel the need to run outside and scream every time I read something like this...

You can choose not to read this you know, everyone has a choice.

I could also title these as 'Off topic' as well but that would be a lie because it would not be off topic, it is to do with looking out for people's health.

So sorry Matt I should have been clearer...its not that you are posting them, or that they are not interesting......it is the content of this type of article that makes me want to scream.

Honey and cinnamon may have been used for centuries but that was back when there was no alternative and old wives remedies were rife....and in some cases lethal

The claims made in this article are suspect at best and in a couple of cases downright untrue...and the thing that gets me is that there are vulnerable people out there desperately searching for something to help with their health issues who may be fooled by this type of thing

This one is relatively harmless (unless a person was to shun proper medical care for this type of old hoo-hah) but some of them could have more serious consequences...

I will be going to see my dentist soon and have made a note to ask their opinion on applying a sugary paste to painful teeth because while I do not have the necessary expertise on this subject (I am not a dentist) it sounds a bit nuts to me...

Dentists will generally recommend clove oil for painful gums as it fights bacteria and gently numbs :-) Painful teeth (as opposed to gums) could be nerve problems, swelling from abscess or other. Always better to get something like that checked out by professional. Agree that simplification of poultice in the face of serious ill health is not the best advice!

There was a case of a teenage girl with an open wound in a skin cancer ward where her lower leg had been open for months and just wouldn't heal because her immune system was so low. As a last resort, an aromatherapist placed lavender essential oil and honey into the open gaping wound on leg. Reapplication was repeated and within one week, the skin had joined and started healing with no other changes to her environment. Always consult practitioner with serious health issue!

I must grab some honey and cinnamon!

I cannot say I have tried the honey and cinnamon myself but I would imagine it works or helps.

I use more natural products now and do find they help more than pharmacies.

Late last year, I think it was, I had a stomach bug. I put a slice of onion on my feet, you can use socks to hold it in place but I had elastic bands around my feet.

Anyway, half an hour later I was feeling pretty good :).

Onions are anti bacterial and garlic also helps too as they are from the same family.

Ok, you might smell like a casarole but at least you cure yourself quicker.

Honey and cinnamon on toast ,crumpets, pancakes or baked apples is totally delicious and has the proper feel good factor :)

It has the 'Feel good factor' but I wouldn't say 'proper' though but that is my opinion anyhow :).

Proper not meant as correct more as a real full on yummy in your tummy feel good factor... but I am done justifying my silly comments for today...

Matt

Thanks for posting. Agree with iforget that articles like these can motivate some to blindly follow without consulting all the detail such as amount, type, timing, number of applications, and aftercare associated with it. This is why modern medicine does not like the uncertainty of yearly harvested lavender which produces different amounts of lavendin depending on the amount of sun, rain and wind to grow the crop. Modern medicine was born out of standardisation, thus it moved to the lab, simplifying chemicals. The downside is like that of modern marijuana where plant breeding has largely removed the safe chemicals which balance the effects felt in the body making it a potent and potentially lethal experience. This is why I always trust nature's way, it provides chemical formulas in balanced amounts (except for things like Japanese Knotweed and deadly nightshade!)

In my view, modern medicine is equal to (depending on investment into diagnosis) traditional historic recipes which are usually applied as per individual needs. Modern medicine hasn't time to consider each person individually. However since gene therapy has surfaced, and they see the profit associated with a new and innovative service, they are now interested in treating each patient as per their individual genes, of course to the elite at first, at an elite price.

Over the last 15 years, the EU has been rejecting products like varying lavender harvest chemicals (so they cant be sued - innocent explanation). Some might take the approach standardisation of modern medicine is good and the removal of a balance of chemicals which minimise side effects is acceptable. Why then does the EU take the knowledge held in Traditional Chinese Medicine and try to make it into pharmaceuticals for profit? The side effects of potent pure chemicals in modern medicine create many problems which occur a lot less with traditional blends.

Negative reactions to traditional herbs are experienced by individuals who have not considered herb synergy or consulted a practitioner. The way of many natural herbs is, they produce worse symptoms before they diminish and allow healing. Its why you start small and work up dosages - always.

Everyone who is able should be allowed to choose the route of their recovery and when pharmaceuticals and EU start to dictate availability for control and profit, people will push back, health is sacred. Plants are too. Choice is king. Peace of mind is everything to recovery.

Best.

Deadly nightshade was one of the few things our parents scared us witless about as kids...and for good reason. There are reasons why people like me shouldn't try foraging - I have no idea what I am doing - and the only mushroom collecting I will ever do is from the farmers market ;)

I agree totally about dosing and natural remedies...and that includes diets too. A cancer centre I visited suggested I try a macrobiotic diet and as you might imagine, having been totally worn down by chemo I was super keen to try anything that might work... Unfortunately for me I went all gung-ho and jumped right in with the diet... big mistake. To say my innards were not best pleased with the sudden dramatic change would be an understatement...I thought I was going to die...in fact I longed for the agony to be over... Luckily the centre quickly recognised my newbie error and set me straight... The diet was boring but not in the least dangerous when followed properly and eased into...

That was one lesson I could have done without learning the hard way ;)
