Cannabis Can Rescue Learning and Memory After a Traumatic Brain Injury, According to Study

News, Studies April 4, 2015 by TheJointBlog

A new study injurypublished in the journal Annals of Clinical and Translational Neurology has found that activation of the body’s cannabinoid receptors – something done naturally by cannabis – can rescue learning and memory after a traumatic brain injury.

For the study, researchers “tested the hypothesis that posttraumatic brain injury administration of a cannabinoid 1 receptor agonist can rescue deficits in learning and memory. Young adult male rats were subjected to a moderately severe controlled cortical impact brain injury, with a subset given postinjury i.p. injections of a cannabinoid receptor agonist.’

Utilizing novel object recognition and the morris water task, researchers found that “the brain-injured animals treated with the agonist showed a marked recovery.”

The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Calgary’s Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute and Regeneration Unit in Neurobiology Core Facility, and the University of Hawai’i’s Department of Biology, can be found by clicking here.

There is a man named Rick Simpson who is all 'up in the air' about the magic of cannabis and the fact that the government make it illegal.

Rick is from Canada where Cannabis is legal to buy but in America, UK and other places it is illegal.

Some states in America have started to legalise cannabis and now have stores selling it.

Crime rates have too lessened in these areas as well as more job oppertunities as well as the fact of its healing properties.

I have heard of some people who have used it and it has don wonders.

The actor Michael J. Fox, he has got Parkinson's disease and he has apparently used canabis.

i don't think it has completely healed him but has got rid of most of it.

Thanks for a really interesting item Matt. How depressing that we're still being deprived of this drug which is so plentiful and cheap. It's criminal how much revenue the drug companies (hence government) are making as a result of it's deprivation. :x

I have never had any interest at all in the government, politics bore the hell out of me.

Everyone can be a political person but I don't really want to sit and talk about it.

I have always thought, what is the point in having a government? I can govern myself thank you very much.

The word 'govern' is to control and the word 'ment' is to do with the head in some other language, I think.

Basically, the government are there to brainwash people.

They have certainly done that with the cannabis plant.

But they cannot go on brainwashing people no more.

Wow very very interesting Matt and Nutkin!

Totally agree with the commercial side of the rubbish they sell or supply.

And why isn't there a clever person in the gov to pick up on this kind of thing and actually see how much they COULD make from it

Well, that could all boil down to something called the New World Order (NWO).

I don't know all the ins and outs of this NWO but I do know that it is one major government in control of the world and the main plan is to wipe off billions of people, so the conspiracy theory goes.

I know someone who is knows a thing or two about this, she knows more than I about it, and I actually think she has got herself a bit paranoid about it all.

It's probaby best to be aware that there is danger out there but you don't have/want to know about it.

Like when my friend first started talking about it, I got very annoyed afer sometime.

She knows much more tan I do, like I said before. All I need to know is that tere is evil out there, now let me live my life haha.

Just be careful what you consume.

I have been eating more naturally since late last year. I still eat a little bad stuff but not like I used to.

Sounds like a pile of dingo's kidneys to me. There are so many other places in the world that this trial could have been conducted where there would not be the financial benefits to their pharmaceutical industries (if any) and that would have stood to benefit by providing such treatment (even if only to get money off the rich Americans / Europeans / Russians / Asians who would surely flock there).

I'll be a little more credulous when I see proper, peer-reviewed, repeatable, large-scale studies conducted that demonstrate the claimed results.

Well I know for sure that the Neutrogena face wash I was using before was a load of rubbish because I actually experienced it.

Like I said, I got the cheaper stuff. After a couple of uses, my eyelids felt sore. I looked at ingredients, found the active ingredient was 'Salicylic acid'. Researched this. Found out it is corrosive to the skin. Stopped using the face wash.

Here is the study Nutkin shared, in full. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Interesting, but keep in mind that they injected rats with a cannabinoid receptor agonist drug, as opposed to smoking raw marijuana, which people may have implied. Looks promising, but there are no studies to my knowledge investigating marijuana use in the TBI population and don't bet there ever will be.
