Hi Negeen. I'm a stroke survivor. Depends what you mean by living well, it's a very broad questions. I'm living differently. I'm know longer a Personal Assistant due to my ABI. My disabilities cannot be seen on the outside as a physical sign, which causes issues for other people. I've some come back to me when it happens to them or a loved one and the remember what I said. Insight is not something everyone has. Are you living well?
i am 2 years post stroke. I recovered really fast but then had 2 aneurisyms coiled. My stroke was caused by arrythima. Now on warfarin. Unfortunately I have developed epilepsy, simple partial seizures due to the damage in my brain. The epilepsy is not the issue now, its the meds Lamictal200mg Im on for it. They have severely affected my quality of life. My balance is terrible, post stroke I had a balance test and it was recorded better than a non stroke survivor. I am 53 and have the movements of someone of 83. My gait is affected and I get dizzy if something moves in my peripheral vision. I am about to wean off the meds as my epilipsy is confined to one eye and does not affect my life at all. I will consult with my GP but he will try to talk me out of it. I will probably never drive again. When I was told I could not drive I thought my freedom was gone but now the truth is my freedom is gone because Im so fearful going out and about alone. I want my good health back that I had after my stroke.
Morning I am now five years post stroke, I was sent home from rehab four months after my stroke with my husband being told I would never walk again I was completely lucky because my best friend paid for me to see a private neuro Physio and it was a matter of months and they had me walking again, I now walk slowly with a stick, I am an accountant member of the Chartered institute of Management Accountants CIMA I have had wonderful help from their Benevolent Fund, and they have paid for an FES for my affected leg, they have also put aside some money for me to have some driving lessons, as you will no doubt have deduced the effects of my stroke have been, physical rather than mental or speech related, I did lose the left side of my perrifferal vision out of both eyes which meant I had to surrender my driving licence initially but after a few months it just repaired itself well enough but I still failed my driving assessment using an adapted car, this was down to nervous driving and hesitation not surprising having been in hospital for 4 months and then not driving for another 6 months to the time of my assessment, I'm not surprised by being nervous but the assessor said he thought another 6 or dos lessons would iron that out, and that is what CIMA have said they will pay for wonderful,
As my mind feels fine I have for 6 months worked as an accountant from home which was fun and perfectly possible given, the internet and cloud software, I was actually able to run a paper free practice which having the use of only one hand was excellent, but I did miss the contact of working in a team
so I am currently trying to get a job back in an office with people and in an office, through the job centre I was referred to an organisation that means I have an adviser who picks me up and takes me along to interviews waits and takes me home again when I do secure a job then a government scheme called Access to work should pay for me to get a taxi to and from work each day,
I have an interview tomorrow for an accountant role at my old salary level which will be unbelievable! And certainly something that my rehab team had told me to be realistic about, feeling confident today as have had a few interviews now so feeling much more comfortable in myself, had my hair cut and coloured last night and getting my nails done, only trouble is that I still need a Carer to get me ready as cannot use my left hand so buttons etc
But hey got to keep trying no cause found for my stroke but I think it was stress so I shall bear that in mind for any new role I take but looking to get a job ready for this summer
