Looking for SALT for adult stroke survivor

Hello all. Another newbie to the post. My husband had a massive stroke on March 12th. He was discharged on June 17th and is now at ‘home’ - although it is not home as we were working overseas when this happened. Anyway, we are doing OK and managing to keep going, but I am desperate to try and find him a speech therapist to help him regain communication of some kind. We are doing our best with apps like Cue Speak and React2, but would really benefit from some professional guidance, even if only once a week or so.

I have tried two private ones but neither has capacity for more clients. Anyone out there got recommendations? We are based in Reading but prepared , willing and able to drive!

The community based team ‘aims to assess us within 18 weeks” so no joy for a speech therapist there either.

Grateful for any recommendations, b

Thanks.

you could have a look online to see if there is anyway you can help him yourself.

Thank you Steve. Yes, on line seems to be the best bet and is what we are doing right now.

Just wondered if any local universities offer training and would have students needing to practice with real patients?

Thanks Moo196. Apparently Reading Uni does it, but not until October now. We will get ourselves on the list though.

They may be able to pass yr details on to recent graduates who may be interested in gaining experience?

use picture boards, that way he can communicate with you, and, you can get him to try and say the word at the same time. also try using using sayings ...........like the one they used to teach when you were learning to type.

Thank you. We are trying that.

Have you not been offered any help from the Hospital as they should be offering help with his aftercare . If he is still under a consultant I’d get in touch with him or your own GP
