hi
anyone know if stress can cause a relapse
Hi dilm, when I was discharged from hospital the Neurosurgeon told me to avoid stress - very difficult in certain circumstances, I know' especially if you have no control over them, but he thought it contribued to my BI. Will it happen again I asked him and he said 'it shouldn't but try and avoid stress!" Not an exact answer for you I know but hope it helps.
Hi, I would say its best avoided and I wouldn't be surprised if it does, I know how I'm affected when I'm stressed, basically everything gets very hard to do, my brain starts to shut down, I can't think properly, my speech goes, my sight dims , not pleasant at all. Janet xxx
I'm nearly three years on from my TBI now and stress is the single biggest trigger for me. It can bring on fatigue very quickly and with that problems with speech, sensation, gait. Of course the really bad thing is that if i notice it happening i get more stressed....
2 years on, I experience exactly the same thing. The speech is the most weird I can go from being quite eloquent to stammering and slow speech..
It doesn't have to be anything emotional or mentally challenging - recently I was cooking a meal and I was following a recipe that was badly written. I must have read it 20 times or more. Their preparation time was 30 minutes by the time I had got it in the oven it was over 3 hours excluding the break I had in the middle
Hi dillm2. My daughters TBI was just last February and she too suffers if she gets stressed. She can't get her words out, gets very emotional and bites people's heads off. When she has no stress she is such a lovely girl. We're just hoping this will get better in time. Jo xxx
The stress causes me to to get very agitated and unable to say what I mean which makes me more stressed ! I suffer with sleep which makes me more agitated and frustrated, concentration goes and I can be horrible. It seems to me that stress is very noticeable in BI people because they don't have the ability to hide their feelings. Or it is that way for me anyway. That's is why I do yoga. To destress and improve my concentration and balance too!
thanks everyone havea big hug from me
