Cerebral Hypoxia

I was born with a hole in my heart, I had an operation when I was 2 years old, from the day I had that operation my life changed we (my family) were told that I had suffered a "stroke" during the op!

2 months ago me and my mother went to see my GP to get to see a neurologist because we were told by the doctors at the time that "we think" she had a stroke I was never sure that was correct though! went and saw the neurologist and I had a few tests done and he said "I have a diagnosis and it wasn't a stroke" I said "well what on earth was it that happened?" and he said it is something called Cerebral Hypoxia which is where the oxygen got cut off from my brain.

It wouldn't have been so bad apart from the fact that I am 27 years old now and the surgery happened when I was 2 years old so it has taken 25 years to get this final diagnosis!!

Has anyone else had a similar experience it would be great to get to know anyone who else who has

Hello Tigg, and welcome to the community. Sorry I don't know the term, then again I label myself a "brain damaged monkey" and, apparently there is a more generic medical term of head injury which is supposed to make me feel a whole lot better. I am sorry that it took this long to discover, but, in defense of the NHS things have developed greatly over the past few years with mental health awareness, thankfully, Good luck ti you.

Hi Tigg, When i suffered my brain haemorrhage it was in the cerrabelum area. My notes from that time list all the areas affected, one of them being cerebal infarction which is in the same group as cerebal hypoxia. I'm not sure what you are hoping for in terms of a reply??? so it's probably best to ask questions and see if we have had similar experiences and share the outcome... Of my last 6 years and your 25 years
