Such as to medication, in particular anti-depressants for anxiety. And if so is there any proof of this? Has there been any trials and so on? Thanks Gemma
Does anyone know if being a coeliac m... - Gluten Free Guerr...
Does anyone know if being a coeliac makes you more sensitive?
Complex question Gemma. I don't know of any such research. I do know that depression is closely associated with CD as it can effect all the body tissues inc the brain. Therefore the knack is usually a strict GF diet to help avoid depression. Plus linking with other coeliacs so as to not feel isolated. Also bear in mind your body will appear much more sensitive as you heal eg to sugars/ meds as you're often absorbing them for the first time in years. So it's worth checking what's in them and if any starches/ sugars could be a problem for you.
Ref medication - depends what you are taking e.g. many list depression as a side effect even for depression meds. I am sure there is some black wry irony there somewhere!
So ASAP I'd seek help from your Dr. As some can make people very low and suicidal.
I have to agree with Fiona that you should ask your GP and you could ask the dispensing chemist about known side effects of your med. for an immediate response
I have a bad reaction to some med's but have no experience with antidepressants. You also do not say whether the reaction is gluten like or psycho-active.
I would also like to say how sorry I am that you need antidepressants. And you are not alone and there have been a few threads on Celiac.com a US forum and here's a link to one about them:
Hey guys, thanks for the advice on this. I had no idea that having cd could cause depression, this is very helpful to know. I'm not depressed just have been told that I suffer from an anxiety disorder caused by something else, but I don't feel that I need antidepressants to treat this and just wanted to show that they would do me no good. Thanks.
Is there a list to check meds i take alot of them.my chemist knows ive cd surely she would kno when she gives me my pills
Thanks for help
