rather than put her through the 2 yearly tests can I get a dna test to see if she has the markers. I read about this happening in the states. If so what do I need to ask the doctor for?

Thanks

I suggest that it might be worth asking your GP about it.

There is a website that does have a little information that you may like to check out but I would think it is best to go through your own doctor especially when it is concerning a child:

This is just my opinion so no shouting at me- lol - I would wait to see if she gets symptoms, I have 4 siblings and I am the only one with CD---my mum had 13 siblings and she was the only one to get it.

Hello,

I don't know about the marker test for coeliac, but the US seem to be ahead of the UK in these type of tests. I'm sure it is possible, but you may struggle to arrange it through your GP.

My 3 year old was diagnosed last year and I was advised not to have my olrder daughter tested unless she showed any symptoms.

You need to bear in mind that the genetic test - even if positive does not mean that she is a coeliac. People can have the genes for coeliac yet still not get it. Having the genes means they are more likely to get it but it's not a done deal. As others have said - discuss testing with your GP. If your other child doesn't show any symptoms (including anemia via blood tests etc) then it maybe she doesn't have it - or it might appear in later life - or not at all. It's great that you are thinking about getting her tested as so many parents find it hard with one coeliac child and shy away from testing siblings.

The best bet is to chat through your concerns with your GP and see what the best way to test her in future would be.
