I posted last week that pharmacy2 u had a problem delivering TEVA thyroxine and I got a prescription to take to a local chemist. I’ve phoned 15 and none have TEVA in stock. Does anyone know of another lactose free thyroxine I can ask for ?

A lot of medications have some Lactose in them. I have to use Asthma sprays which have lactose in them and many medications daily plus for Low Thyroid. I have Lactose intolerance and so take Lactose tablets daily.

I heard from a friend whose preferred medication is made by teva (although it's for different issue not thyroid) that they had to close down production due to contamination in the lab where made. This means that teva drugs would have either run out or been withdrawn from pharmacies. It's only a temporary break in manufacture but it will take some time before production begins again. It was her doctor or pharmacist who told her. I would like to add that I am lactose intolerant but ok with the levels that are on thyroid medication, I don't like the teva meds dye to other ingredients. I hope you can resolve your issue soon.

Thanks for your reply, I contacted TEVA and they were good enough to reply that there is a manufacturing fault and TEVA thyroxine will be available middle of June.

I have had to resort to taking accord thyroxine for the past few days and within 2 hours each day I have had a headache. It does pass but I don’t get it from TEVA. This is what happened prior to taking TEVA. I will just have to grin and bear it till I can get TEVA again.

That is a shame for you, I know my friend has a better effect from her Teva medication. I would rather not have it as Mannitol doesn't seem to agree with me, and now the accord one contains it too. I know the doctors would have us believe otherwise but even small differences between the ingredients can really make a huge difference to those that have to take them. I hope the Teva brand is swiftly restored for you.

Good wishes.

You are correct. With licenced medicines, the active ingredient has to be the same to comply with the licence, but excipients can differ. I don't know why GPs play this down, unless they are unaware, which is always possible.🙄
