Hi Bettyboo, they are several companies who produced mainstream products that met the previous gluten free legislation of 200ppm. For various reasons they don't fit with the new labelling code for gluten free products. The new labelling requirements are very confusing for manufacturers. Some are removing all mention of suitability for coeliacs even though absolutely nothing has changed in the way they produce their product and the product does comply with the new 20ppm requirement.

With the specifically marketed 'free from' foods, Tony is absolutely right in that the open market for this type of food has developed, with many supermarkets producing their own range of 'free from' products. This is impacting on the companies whose products were only available on prescription in the UK. These companies are now trying to market their products in supermarkets or are making the products under the supermarkets own brand name.

There is much discussion at present around the supply of prescription only foods and I should imagine that many of the large companies will be looking for another route to supply their products in case the prescription is removed at a later date.

go into asda. they are getting loads of new stuff in there, they now sell a new pizza and also maccoroni cheese that is really out of this world, its truly lovely but you need to add something to it to make it a main meal. i did boiled spuds and peas and heated the mac. cheese in the oven (i dont like microwaves) if made a filling but tasty meal.

I was in a branch of M&S yesterday and decided to take a look at the food hall and couln not find any GF food there so i found an assistant and asked her where they stock it and with a huge grin she showed me the available GF stock. this consisted of.....one pack of white rolls with one day left on the pack and one yes one chocolate muffin. i was not to impressed. but it did give me a laugh.

Yes i find M & S have very low items of gluten free .They sell a lovely GF sausage though

I was told in M&S this week that they are no longer going to stock GF food in the store but that it could be ordered in. I emailed M&S who informed me that they have no plans to stop stocking the food and then directed me to their ordering site. I wasn't able to reply to their email so whether the food will actually be in their store is still a mystery.
