Finally had my blood test results can anyone tell me what they mean please in terms of not having an endoscopy as I am not seeing a gastroenterologist so it’s kind of annoying really.

Hi Rainbow9416.

Those results seem clear! As it states Coeliac disease likely.

It’s probably because the positive result is not 10x the upper limit that you might have to have an endoscopy and biopsy. It's still the only standard way to confirm CD.

If you really don’t want one then, can you not make an appointment to discuss and request referral to a gastroenterologist?

They might be able to diagnose from a second blood test - usually the endomysial EMA one? It’s very sensitive to Coeliac Disease and normally done when the ttgA test is positive (like yours), as it correlates to a diagnosis of CD. It’s a more labour intensive lab test. Not sure whether it’s routine to do the second blood test or maybe dr has to request it??

The comment is vague saying “biopsy confirmation May be desirable”.

Seems open to interpretation. So that’s something you could quite validly discuss. “Desirable” is not essential. So you could question that in my opinion.

Hope that’s a helpful reply!

Keep us posted!

Thank you I was thinking the same it isn’t clear at all what I will do is get in touch with the doctors tomorrow morning and find out if I can have a blood test instead as I am really not keen on putting myself through one.

I really appreciate your comment.

Hey it kind of is personal choice. From my own personal point of view, doing gluten free diet properly is hard and can be socially isolating. I have read articles o this subject, with any antibodies, there could be a risk of coeliac and non celiac gluten sensitivity developing in the future. The diagnosis you get will depend on who you see in thr uk,their attitude and wether they are up to date with international opinion. If I had your results, knowing how debilitating any auto immune condition that could develop as a result of continuing with gluten in my diet, I would go to gluten free diet.
