gluten in vitabiotics

Hi everyone,does anyone know if the Vitabiotics calcium supplement has gluten in it?

I have studied the packaging and the leaflet and it is dairy free but they don't mention gluten free anywhere. The complete list of ingredients is not included either.l know some supplement companies use gluten as a filler.

Does anyone use calcium supplements and what ones do they use?

I was taking 2 other types of Vitabiotics supplements and it wasn't clear on the packaging of those either. I emailed the company (2 or 3 years ago) to check and they said there was no gluten in the supplements and they were in the process of amending the packaging. Clearly a long job! I bought 3 for 2 at the time - one was Vitamin D with hundreds of tiny tablets which are still well within date and I'm still taking them. I'm fine with them and I normally react to even small amounts of gluten. Hope this helps.

Hi Sapphire. Thank you for replying and it does help. I take vit D3 too, normally from another company but Vitabiotics was cheaper so taking their's now too. I have gluten ataxia, a progressive neurological condition because of many years of eating gluten with non coeliac gluten sensitivity. Trying to get health professionals to accept NCGS is real, out there and it is estimated that 10 % may suffer, is like banging your head against a brick wall!

I had a look, but they have a few with Calcium so I wasn't sure which one you meant.

Hi BekahDSFollowed the link and Oesteocare Original that I take is there with a gluten free search. As I take a lot of supplements the fact that Vitabiotics does not always make things clear with amounts and fillers so comparing and adding up the totals in different supplements is difficult.

But Vitabiotics are cheap and I don't usually buy supplements off supermarket shelves, but the price does help long term. Just hope that the quality is not compromised too much!

Body-by-nature-supplements (6049) Seller on eBay does various Supplements that show in the listing ingredients and Free from list. Most, if not all are free from Gluten and more. They might be a couple more pounds expensive than Vitabiotic, though.

Hi, it's unclear when you say complete list of ingredients not provided. If you visit their website it seems very detailed: vitabiotics.com/products/os....

You're going to have to check with manufacturer, but don't expect a straight answer either. It is very odd that there is no gluten declaration as they seem safe.

To flag up - calcium carbonate is a poor form of calcium for asborption. Calicum citrate is better. Vitamin K also helps it go the right places, and not collect in arteries, etc.

I use Solgar Calcium Citrate with D3, and take a separate magnesium and vit K. It's a hassle but no probs with it so far, and all seem safe for gluten.

Hi Benjamin, cannot see what form the ingredients take or the amount which as I take various supplements have to add up the total amounts so that it is within safe guidelines. I often take vitamins and minerals that are much higher than the Recommended Daily Amount.Adding them all up and seeing what type is a bit of a flaff, but also supplement companies vary. Cheaper is often not the best, re. Bioavailability, but also reputation is important.

It is a minefield choosing supplements. The Vitabiotics range is often positioned near the checkouts, like sweets used to be!

So easy to pick up.

Agree, it is tricky. I take calcium, etc., every day and sometimes wonder if it's the right or wrong thing to do, as no substitute for food source of vitamins/minerals, but these are the challenges when you can't have dairy, or need to build up your bones. I hope you find a good answer to this soon.
