I wrote saying that I was physically very weak, and very nauseous....then I learned that my blood sodium levels had taken a dip. I'd been put on a new blood pressure med Indapamide which is a diuretic, but used as a bp med at low doses. I don't have fluid retention and stopped this after 4 days because it made me so ill (the low sodium) . Today a blood test taken yesterday showed my creatinine levels are now high and GFR low. I've got to immediately stop my other bp meds and pick up a different one tomorrow....and get my bloods tested again on Monday when the Dr will call me again.
I saw a Gastroenterologist on Weds who said that there is no doubt about the coeliac diagnosis but has booked me for endoscope next w/end + chest X-ray + Ultrasound based on the low sodium & tenderness behind my sternum.
I'd had a blood test 3 days before starting Indapamide and all was good. How did it all go so downhill so fast.

Sorry you’re having a bad time of it at the moment. I used to find when another tablet was introduced for something, it could send everything out of kilter very quickly. I used to take various blood pressure tablets that didn’t agree with me. The worse one for me personally was bendroflumethiazide I was taking it alongside Losartan Potassium. For me, it caused serious spasms in my upper back that were so bad, I could hardly move. It turned out because of another medication for nerve pain, it caused me to sweat more than usual and made my potassium levels dip. After I came off bendroflumethiazide (a diuretic), my levels rose again. It could be something like that which has happened to you. (I realise they are by no means identical circumstances).
As for the endoscopy, if this is to confirm your coeliac disease, you need to be eating gluten regularly for at least 6 weeks beforehand so you get an accurate diagnosis.
Things might have gone downhill fast, but just remember, once they get to the bottom of things, they can turn round again. I know it’s hard not to worry, but don’t give up hope of getting it fixed.
Thankyou Ukulelelady1. The indapamide - also a thiazide. Maybe they don't agree with coeliacs. Different reactions but still both dramatic, I'd been on losartan for about 8yrs without any problems.
The gastroenterologist is aware that I have been GF for 3 months (his diagnosis and instruction)- he's looking for something nasty. Fingers crossed he doesn't find it.
Hi Nellie, I really hope there’s a simple answer to your problem, and that he doesn’t find anything nasty too. Sometimes they look for these things just to rule them out. Let us know how you get on and try not to let your mind go into overdrive. Best wishes.
Penel Ukulelelady1 I just wanted to thank you both for your kind thoughts/encouragement, and to let you know that I had some good news today. Yesterday's blood draw shows a big improvement. GFR is up from 29 to 57. Testing again next week, and still some way to go to get back to 82 , but I am pleased as punch. My GP has been absolutely fantastic - 'not out of the woods yet' and thinks exceptionally bad reaction to increased losartan & then indapamide.
Just the endoscope on Saturday to get through, sort out my bp - get the chest x-ray & ultrasound and hopefully get some energy back.
That’s sounds like really good news and very promising. Saturday will be over with before you know it. Focus on something to look forward to afterwards. Endoscopies are not so bad, if you’re worried, you can always ask for medication. I had some kind of hypnotic beforehand - but you can’t drive afterwards and need some one with you for 24 hours. Wishing you all the best.
