As well as CD, I have 3rd stage kidney disease, high parathyroid hormone levels, high aldesterone levels and Hashimotos and osteoporosis. I am now having my BP taken 3 times a day because the cuff had to go so high on my 24 hr monitoring that the cuff caused such pain that it elevated my BP to 210/130

has anyone else got a problem with blood pressure my BP has started climbing and it is now 180/90.
Is the high blood pressure related to your kidney disease? You should perhaps be on medication to lower it, I'm not sure it would be related to coeliacs.
I think it is related to my parathyroid and aldesterone levels
However the doctor today thinks i am having some autoimmune problem and all of it is related in some way
I think the gist of this article (and I only scanned it) is saying that as coeliacs often gain weight once absorption of nutrients from food improves, this is an increased risk for developing heart problems. So it's important to maintain a healthy weight..
Yes I agree but I must admit that after 10 years of being GF I am still shocked by the amount of fat in GF bread and pasta in comparison with non GF. I just don't eat GF cakes or biscuits because the calories are so high yet I now seem to put on weight easily. There are days I yearn for my old size 8 even though I was really ill. So I wonder if it is the fat in substitute products that is pushing up my cholesterol and my BP.
Hi Mia
I have also been GF for 10 years.
I had my BP and cholesterol checked recently, as part of a general health check. My BP is healthy low, my cholesterol was lower than average and I am a healthy weight.. I eat full fat foods like butter and cook with lard but avoid processed food as much as possible (so no pasta, very little bread). I don't know if my results are just down to my genes but I have read several articles suggesting that BP & cholesterol are adversely affected by eating too many carbohydrates, especially processed carbs like sugar. If you are interested have a look for articles by Gary Taubes. The recent BBC TV program called 'The Men who made us Fat' also has some interesting information in it.
Sorry I can't post any links - I'm on a foreign computer and can't get it to what I want!
Yes I think I am a bit of a puzzle, I don't eat processed foods, I am Italian so I do eat pasta but only 75g as a serving and no bread. They are talking tonight about operating on my parathyroid as seemingly my calcium count is up and it might be related. It looks like this I'd not CD but yet another autoimmune disease.
Thanks everyone bit of a worrying weekend
Remember you can always ask for a 2nd opinion. Operating should be a last resort.
Good luck Mia
Thanks Fiona I have asked seeing another doc on Wednesday
