Anaphylaxis

I am Coeliac. My favourite restaurant where I live in Spain is owned and fronted by a lovely guy who’s sister has the same condition. He recently told me that his sister now had anaphylactic shock after a serious glutening and now has to constantly carry epi pens. Has anybody else heard of this ?

I’ve come across one person with this problem, a young man. I think it’s unusual and wonder if it may be linked to a wheat allergy? Anaphylaxis is an allergic reaction not usually associated with an autoimmune disorder.

If you look on a science site like PubMed you should be able to find some information.

It's actually not all that uncommon for someone with Celiac's to also have a wheat allergy or to develop one. I suffer with both....and it's a tricky combination to deal with. Unfortunately, it seems no matter how vigilant you are, the best you can do is to expect the unexpected exposures and be ready.
