Has anyone had fibroids that have caused digestive issues and bloated stomach? I’m just recovering from nasty bout of diverticulitis, stomach looks quite swollen at times. Have also been diagnosed with fibroids and gather they can cause digestive issues....?

Hey Budgie, sorry I don't have any useful info but I'm interested in knowing more about your symptoms and how you got diagnosed with diverticulitis/ fibroids. I've been having intermittent bowel/intestinal pain since I went GF in March and got worse in last few months and currently going thru loads of tests. Nothing's come up so far. I have looked up diverticulitis but it's only been mentioned to me in the context of collapsing with acute lower abdominal pain once last summer and once this summer. Any pointers you have would be helpful. TIA.
Diagnosed with severe diverticula disease after some episodes like you describe, diagnosed via sigmoidoscopy then ct colonoscopy. Diverticulitis is when it gets infected and flares up and can be very nasty. I'm just recovering from one the other week where i had to go to hospital and was put on a fluids only diet and 10 days of antibiotics. I'm still not right I'm surprised they haven't done a colonoscopy on you.
Oh and the fibroids were discovered on te same CT scan. Well, what they said was i had an 'enlarged uterus, suggesting fibroids'. I actually feel so ill even after my recent diverticulitis has subsided that I am going to ask for an ultrasound to confirm why uterus is indeed enlarged, and confirm size of fibroids - my stomach is so swollen, and i think the fibroids are pressing on my bladder ad may also be aggravating my digestive issues, which they can, I gather.
Thanks so much. Well I'm down to have a colonoscopy now and might be in next week. I have had womb ovaries kidneys scanned and all are normal so bowel probs seem most likely. I'm so sorry you're having a bad time. I'm hoping your pain is manageable soon .
Hi. I’m sorry you’ve not been feeling well. I first had fibroids diagnosed in 2007. They have affected my bladder causing urinary incontinance, painful bowel movements and anaemia from excessive bleeding. I am awaiting a full hysterectomy at present, as none of the treatments have been successful. And the have grown to a large size. I wish you luck for the future.
I have the same problems I definitely think my fibroids affect my digestive system. I suggested to my doctor I may have diverticulitis as I have had bowel surgery in the past. Bloated most of the time and can’t eat a lot of things because of it.
Sorry to her of your woes it can be quite depressing as it’s with you so much of the time. Turns out mine was not fibroids after all but adenomyosis uterus. I think that can cause similar symptoms.
Digestive issues are rubbish! Diverticula can be diagnosed by a ct colonoscopy or straight colonoscopy which is how they found mine. Quitting gluten and adding lots of seeds helped enormously, until August when I had my worst diverticulitis flare up and I have not been quite right since. I think it was caused by not drinking Enuf water on a walking holiday to flush the seeds through. anyway I would ask for a colonoscopy if you think u may have diverticula pouches.
