Helen's bread

Until recently I've occasionally purchased Helen's seeded bread mix from Waitrose but now find it is unavailable and her online delivery service is closed down. I thought this product was the best I'd ever found, tasty, economical and easy to make so I am disappointed this bread mix has now disappeared. Anybody got any ideas where to purchase this from or know of any accessible alternatives please?

Ocado still has it in stock and they show the contact details for the manufacturer as well :)

Thank you! I will be on to this. Someone else messaged me with this info too.

I buy a fantastic loaf from waitrose and ocado which is the only one which doesn't irritate my coeliac digestive system. As an added bonus, it is good just toasted with butter. A cousin of mine who's a nutrition expert looked at the label and said it's really good. It's BFree brown seeded loaf. I also had the Helen's mix and found it tasty but a bit stomach-upsetting. Hope this helps

Thank you Hil101. It looks really good but unfortunately it contains maize and buckwheat which I can't eat. It's often the case for me that GF products contain maize or buckwheat.

I can't have maize either so was thrilled that I might have found a bread I can eat but looking at the ingredients, it lists corn flour as the first ingredient.

Yes it does - oddly enough I don't have a problem with cornflour. I use it for sauces but in very small amounts and I suspect the quantity I eat in the bread is minimal too as I don't have any reaction and I don't eat tons at a time. When I was ill last year I had to take paracetamol regularly and I got really bad stomach cramps and heartburn. I discovered that the tablets were coated in maize. I think it was the amount and regularity that gave me the problems. I had surgery in the summer and the hospital pharmacist gave me dissolvable paracetamol.

Occasionally I have treated myself to M & S superseeded sandwich thins which are quite nice but pricey. I don't think there is any cornflour in these but of course as I say expensive.

Maize & corn is the same thing though?

I know that is why it is odd. I cannot eat polenta which is disappointing as I love it! The gastro did a blood test to see if I did have a maize allergy and he warned me it would probably be negative (I've forgotten why) and it was negative. I suspect I can eat cornflour as it is in very small quantities which is completely different to wheat ingestion, as if I have the least crumb I will react violently. I really can't explain it.

It's a strange thing isn't it?! I can't have egg at all now but to start with I was alright with it in cakes & bread but not as boiled, scrambled etc then it started to affect me all the time.

I agree! This is a blow. Still have a packet left and they have a website: foodbyhelen.com. I’m going to make contact and see if they can send me a few packets. By the way-have you tried adding a few walnuts to the mix-delicious! Good luck.

Likewise - just one packet left and annoyingly shared the previous one with my non-GF friends! I am going to try to source some more of this bread mix. When I do will try adding walnuts - what a good idea. Let me know if you are successful in a purchase.
