brittle nails

Hi there, I've been coeliac for a long time now but I have bad nails since i can remember. They don't grow or if they grow a little bit they peel or break or they are very brittle. I tried expensive nail treatments, blood tests to check my minerals level, Ca, Mg,etc., Nothing is working. When i don't wear fake nails I have to keep them very short and I fell very bad about it. Any ideas about how can I find the cause of this and treat them to grow please? Thank you

Can only suggest looking at b12 result if you had it included in bloods

Or not wearing false nails- the one and only time i had it done it wrecked my nails once they came off- took ages to repair! Swore i would never ever get them done again because of it.

Perhaps look at your diet, We exclude certain foods. Maybe you are eliminating nail building foods. Could be you have inherited bad nails and have to live with poor nail growth. Nail building diet results might be immediate, might take several months. How fast should our nails grow?

Not sure who to ask for advice but dietician comes to mind, access via your GP. Dieticians are everywhere, attached to GPs, hospitals and outpatients. Seek a second opinion, find another source of advice.

As you already know, try increasing your calcium (dairy) intake. What affect does that have?

Bad nails might be an indication of something else. It took me decades to sort out my exclusions.

Thank you.Didn't realised that you can inherit bad nails. I remembered now that my mum always had bad nails. I was thinking that is just because I'm coeliac?

Zinc? Not sure.Would my GP test me for this? Probably not. What daily dosage have you got and how did you find out that you have a lack of Zinc? Thanks
