Ok, so we are taking our 7 year old away for the night to stay near a hotel near Longleat for a half term treat (in a vague attempt to beat the crowds in the morning). I take the usual deep breath (as am aware that eating out 9 times out of 10 has resulted in some unwanted symptoms reappearing). Plans are afoot to stock up on immodum, alka seltzer (my go-to pack for glutening disasters). And then a miracle occurs...

Checking on the hotel website I follow a Facebook link for their onsite cafe and discover - honestly I think i am dreaming - the whole cafe is gluten free (and dairy-free come to that). I actually rang them up to confirm I wasn't imagining it :D

My husband "gets" it up to a point, but needed to share - I feel like all my christmases have come early!

That's wonderful! Do post a review after you've been there.

I always "google ahead" if we're going somewhere new.

It's nouveau cafe at the lighthouse b&b/hotel in Frome. No idea even what's on offer but the idea of eating out without worrying - that will be a first since diagnosis :). The bad news is they are unlicensed (and anti booze) - every silver lining has a cloud 😄 Will report back...

I ate out at wagama in Aberdeen this week and I was very happy with the way I was treated the way they explained all the allergy lists for food etc. I had a limited choice as I am vegan as well. But it was a positive experience. I shall be writing to their head office to praise them shortly .

It's a great feeling isn't it, knowing that you can eat absolutely anything on the menu? I had a similar experience last year - got a good deal on a hotel in Madrid then found out there was a gluten free cafe on the ground floor, and the food was superb. My non-GF husband was very happy to eat there too.

As promised, a quick review of this place (we stayed at the lighthouse hotel, which is where it's based):

it was a lovely place - food fabulous (evening food better than the breakfast, but that's probably more down to personal taste). My other half chose the best - home made chicken and leek pie, it was great. Mine was a burger, small child had sausages chips and beans. No complaints from anyone. The breakfast was more tricky due to the no-dairy (we use lactofree at home) and small child complained the porridge "didn't taste right". She ate it tho so couldn't have been that bad ;). They made me up a wrap and salad to take to longleat (which from a quick glance wouldn't have been obviously easy to eat at). All in all it was lovely - sadly they shut at 6 so it was a very early meal. But a delight to feel I could try all their food, share humous, olives and bread for starters etc. Fabulous. Definitely give it a go if you are nearby :)
