Has anybody used potato flour to make a cheese sauce? I find cornflour tastes a bit insipid. Any helpful suggestions? I want to make a recipe for guests tomorrow night.

can you make cheese sauce (and other sauces) with potato flour?
I just use GF rice flour. Had no complaints so far!
Hi. I have found a good sauce in Asda, as they have brought out new items in their free from range. White, cheese and parsley sauce I have found to be ok, as living on my own I find it easier, although I do cook all my own cakes and pastries with Glutafin all purpose mix, and friends and family cannot rell the difference. One tip. If you make a sponge, put two teaspoons of Xanthum Gum in as this will help with the rise, and they also make incredibly light cakes
Here's my recipe for white sauce. All you have to do is add the cheese of you choice, in the amount that gives the flavour you want, at the very end. foodchallenges.ca/basic-whi... However, you could certainly use potato flour instead of rice flour, just be aware it will have a potato flavour unless your cheese is strong..
Inmake some with gram flour, just as you would a 'normal' sauce, i have also made with goats butter and soya milk....not so tasty but ok if you cant tolerate dairy!
I always use cornflour and don't skimp on the cheese..I may try the rice flour though.. hmmm
Thank you this is so helpful. I have not had a good cheese sauce since going GF. Will try these suggestions. I can't eat regular hard cheese but can eat cheese that has no additives. I used to make a lovely cheese sauce with ricotta cheese and spinach! I am so grateful for your help.
I have also tried the asda free from cheese sauce and it's very good. I am highly sensitive to gluten and had no adverse reaction from this at all. Makes a great cauli Chese.
Hi, You can use rice flour in sauce making either with a roux (butter-flour base) or as with cornflour, mixing with some cold liquid before adding to the mix. As rice flour is not as fine a cornflour, you will need to cook it a bit longer than with cornflour to get the sauce to thicken and the starchy flavour to cook out. A good flavoured cheese, a bit of mustard and / nutmeg and you should be there. Good luck.
I've used rice flour successfully and also tapioca flour seems to work.
Potato starch rather than flour would be a better bet and it is more common (in Australia anyway) than potato flour. Here are the differences deglutenous.com/blog/potato... . Happy cheese sauce making!
i was not aware until I was 18 that sauce could be made with wheat flour, My Gp said my family had found an almost gluten free diet themselves after questioning me about what we had eaten as a family
