Skin problems chemo

Hi all, my husband was diagnosed with Gbm on March 1st, had awake surgery to remove, radiotherapy and then 6 months chemo as per standard treatment. He is tolerating quite well, put on weight and is always positive. He never looks up his diagnosis in Google. But since 2 months he gets boils and abscesses on arm, leg, nose, lump in inner thigh etc. Has anyone else had these symptoms? He took antibiotics, then antibiotic cream for the next one. Taking antibiotics all the time can't be great but he probably needs another oral dose to clear. On Tuesday we go for the final round of chemotherapy. Slight difference in my case is we live in Spain and husband is Spanish and under Spanish national health system.

Hi Daybreak2, I'm sorry to hear about these side effects your husband is experiencing. We have some information on common chemotherapy side effects, which does include some skin effects, here: thebraintumourcharity.org/b.... The most important thing is to make sure you continue to inform your husband's medical team of any effects he is experiencing, so that he can get support with this. Katie

Hi Daybreak2 I was diagnosed in November 2020 with GMB4 and have been through similar treatment with little or no side effects until about halfway through my chemo course. At this point I started getting an eczema like rash in multiple areas.. my consultant had not seen this before and feels there is nothing to worry about, he also called in a dermatologist who couldn't explain it either. 3 months later still have areas of extremely dry skin.

Make sure your husband does all he can physically, socially mentally and dietary and hopefully he can stay with you for a lot more time.

Best wishes to you both Harvey

What chemotherapy is it?I think he needs to make the chemo team know about this as it could be an allergy? Doesn’t sound right

Thanks for the replies. We got referred to the dermatologist. The latest thing he had was some sort of fungus caused by the chemotherapy. My husband was given a injection to reduce itching and swelling and a course of anti fungus cream which seems to help. All fine for now, he only has epilepsy medication for now and next scan in February. Happy New Year to all and take care.
