Iopidine side effects

Folowing surgery to remove an Epi-Retinal membrane and cataract in a glaucomatous eye on 13 th December, I have had pressures in the high 40's on several occasions. It was a difficult op because there was a functioning Preserflo shunt from 2020 in the same eye. The day after the op my pressure was raised and then again a week later.

Diamox made me feel ill so was discontinued and now I am on Iopidine drops 3X day and I am sure they make me feel dozey and a bit dizzy with a constant vague headache, although the retinal opthalmologist thinks it is because the brain needs to get used to the vision post op. The pressure is still raised at 26 and my ideal is low teens.

Next week I am booked in with the glaucoma team , so I hope to perhaps have more comfortable eye drops.

Has anyone else had problems with Iopidine ?? I should be very interested to hear.

I have been on twice daily iopidine for years. My personal experience is no issues with side effects.

I'm typically fairly sensitive to anything artificial that I am exposed to also as I have eczema and that can flare up. However from what I can tell Ive had no issue with iopidine.

I hope that helps

At two different points in my life, I’ve been on preservative-free Iopidine to reduce eye pressure. On both occasions it was a temporary measure whilst I waited for surgery - the first time a trabeculectomy and the second time an aqueous shunt. I was told that Iopidine, in most cases, will eventually stop being tolerated and that it is not licensed for long-term use. The second time I was on it I did indeed get an allergic reaction after a few months - very itchy, red eyelids. At that point it was discontinued.

Thank you, interesting to hear of your experience . I get the feeling I am on Iopidine temporarily whilst waiting to see the Glaucoma team.

So your red itchy eyelids were a result of the drug not the preservative. At least I do not have that yet.

Hope both your eyes are stable now post op.

Thank you , very helpful to know. Perhaps I will tolerate it with time especially if I have little choice ! Going to see the medics next week with fingers crossed.
