Hi, I have pigmentary glaucoma for 19 years now and after drops stopped working literally overnight and spikes returned I had my first trab in my right eye 5 days ago. By my specialist and surgeon operation was very successful and everything works well. It wasn’t too terrible as I thought and I experienced no pain. But now my eye gets more red and bloodshed every day with a gritty and slightly itchy feeling especially when blinking. @It is irritated and now I’m worried if it’s developing infection or is this normal healing process. I take my steroid drops every 3 hours and ointment at night. Should I go to ER to get it checked or wait for my next check up on Tuesday morning? I have no pain, discharge or change in vision except it being very blurry. Have anyone experienced this and can share some thoughts, I’m obviously very worried and anxious. Thank you so much.

Hi! I'm sorry for you. I too had a trabeculectomy and worried a lot about infection as the eye is at more risk. Are you taking antibiotic eye drops? That should cover infection. If not I would try to see a Dr. sooner. Good Luck!
Hi! Thank you so much for replying, I agree post-op if way more scary than the procedure itself. Thankfully redness is subsiding, and I feel things are settling down slowly. I don’t have antibiotics, I put Dexamethasone drops 6x and ointment before sleep. I feel like the drops are making my eye dry, itchy and gritty especially by the end of the day. Tomorrow I’m going for a checkup and hopefully everything will be ok and I’ll go through this soon. Thank you for your time, I hope your trab is good and working! Best of luck!
Hi there. I would recommend speaking to your eye specialist about this tomorrow, as I can see from the other comment that your next appointment is tomorrow. It could be either an infection or inflammation and they should be able to sort this reaction with drops. I can also see from the other comment that you feel that it is making your eyes dry, so it would be worth speaking to your specialist or a pharmacist about dry eye drops to help as well.
Sorry to hear that you are having post op problems after having your trabeculectomy. Your questions should be addressed to your surgeon who has an obligation to take care of you. Every experience is individual and only he will know your background and the follow-up treatment. I had a revised trabeculectomy at the end of January. Like you everything was fine at the beginning but I am now experiencing blurriness and a bit of soreness. I am following up with my surgeon who should have the answers. Take care and hopefully it will all work out.
Hi, just to update you and thank you for your replies and reassurence, it really helped me ease my mind, I appreciate it very much. My check up this morning went very well, things are looking good with stable pressure of 8 in the operated eye. Both of my specialists and surgeons are happy with the results. No inflammation and eye is slowly settling down. They said the bits of blood will “walk” a bit until they finally dissolve, nothing to worry about. Next check up is in two weeks, hopefully things will remain well.
Thank you again and wishing you all the best!
